Oh gosh....like you're not going to get an absolutely biased book? Why not just ask Karl Marx about the merits of Capitalism vs the merits of Socialism?

PS: Good to see you around Selah! Hope things are good on your end.

On one of the "advertisements" I've read for these books, sums it up quite well, "Faith promoting". Yep - that usually means, lies by ommission right? ;) Like how BY totally went against Joseph's set precedent and allowed blacks to hold the Priesthood? :P

Anyways, I was curious about everyone's thoughts. While I am entertaining the idea of picking one of these books up for comparison study, I'm not interested in it because I for the slightest minute think it will be real work and honest in detail. :P

Hope all is well with you. Missed this board this summer. :D I'm contemplating joining an "ex-Mormon" support group. Ehhh, they all seem so angry though.

Blacks and the priesthood

I am black and was amember for 15 years. Problem is I live in the south and always felt like a second class member. You would have to live in the south to really understand. Her segregation is still practiced.
There are people that stopped coming to church when blacks were able to hold the priesthood.
I recently resigned my membership from the church for that reason and doctrinal reasons.

The more I studied the church the more I felt not welcomed.

I have no hard feelings though because I did meet some people that I really came to love.

I loved the way the church stressed family togetherness.

I am also a Mason and can see where alot came from. I also served as a Temple Ordinance worker.

Could never hold the office as bishop because of my race.

I have changed denominations now because I still love and believe that God lives.

Maybe one day the south will catch up and stop all the racism.

Hi Deacon,

Welcome to the board.

The idea that God would have anything to do with racism just completely doesn't fit into my paradigm concerning anything Godly or holy.

Even as a believer, I could NEVER find peace with the teaching/doctrine that blacks couldn't hold the priesthood. Never. Of course no one told me about the ban when I first joined the church or I never would have joined, nevertheless, all the excuses, justification, and blame given to God for the racism seriously cannot be integrated with a just and loving God.

Similarly, the idea that women are second class citizens in the LDS church, that God wants women to be denied rights, privileges, and opportunities due to their X chromosome makes me a little dizzy! ;-)

Another fifty years and this will change as well... the church just moves really slowly, about a couple of decades after mainstream society. (smile)
