Did Romney's Dad march with King???

Post by _moksha »

Romney recalled seeing his Dad march with Martin Luther King, in interviews and speeches he has given recently. A Boston newspaper challenged this, and Romney's staff has replied:

From NBC/New Jersey's Carrie Dann
Ft DODGE, IA -- Romney says that it depends on what the definition of "saw" is.

A defensive Romney was peppered with questions today on exactly what he meant when he said -- most recently on Meet the Press -- that he "saw" his father march with Martin Luther King Jr. Recent articles have indicated that his father, the late Michigan Gov. George Romney, didn't march with the civil-rights leader.

Admitting that he didn't see the march with his own eyes, he said, "I 'saw' him in the figurative sense."

There you have it, Romney saw him with his spiritual eyes. Nothing wrong with that, he is after all part of a prophetic people.
Also, there is no doubt that George Romney did indeed support Civil Rights. He even received a letter from Apostle Delbert Stapley urging him not to support civil rights. http://www.boston.com/news/daily/24/delbert_stapley.pdf

It should be noted that George Romney did take place in marches and it is said that King respected him.

That letter is simply amazing. Lincoln was assassinated because of the Emancipation Proclamation? Joseph Smith wanted the government to send all blacks back to Africa? Asking a prophet to rethink the church's position on civil rights makes you drown?

I'm completely flabbergasted.

But as to the main topic, Romney is just a pandering sleaze ball looking for votes. I guess he's hoped nobody would check up on his story about his daddy marching with King (and having seen him doing it).

This looks eerily familiar. Too familiar.

I think you have him pegged.

This is just another example of not knowing the audience. Mitt had no idea how badly his wording would go over.

Just as MLK could say "I have a dream", I think Mitt is saying "I saw my father march with Dr King". Neither has much substance, but absolutely no one is going to cut him any slack about this.

Mitt is a politician. Just as a used car salesman they will say anything to get a vote.
Maybe Mitt should get together with Hillary and they can compare memories of things that never happened?
