Is the Internet Confounding the Revision of History

Is the internet confounding the revision of Mormon History? If not for the internet, wouldn't the practice of polygamy slip into a readily deniable non-existence? We would know that polyandry was never practiced, that the MMM happened somewhere in California, if it indeed happened at all.
Does this seem like the hokey imaginings of a penguin? What is your take on what things would be like for Mormon History without the internet?

Hey Mok... :-)
Well just think back a few years ago. (smile)
Yeah, I think it is safe to say without the internet few would know the full story.
However, polygamy is still alive and well in LDS teachings. So long as men have multiple women in heaven, so long as the scriptures still consider polygamy doctrine it isn't going anywhere.

While polygamy is still on the books, I sense the Church would prefer that nobody talk about it outside the Temple. That makes sense because it associates modern day Mormonism with kookiness.
The internet continually holds open all the unpleasantries of Mormon history, which we are told is not useful.

I'll muse for a moment:
2 ..and from thence shall the gospel (internet) roll forth unto the ends of the earth, as the stone which is cut out of the mountain without hands shall roll forth, until it has filled the whole earth.
(Doctrine and Covenants | Section 65:2)
34 Thou sawest till that a stone was cut out without hands, which smote the image (Mormon church) upon his feet that were of iron and clay, and brake them to pieces.
(Old Testament | Daniel 2:34)
If it were not for the internet I would have grown old and died a Mormon.

Hey Mok,
The internet continually holds open all the unpleasantries of Mormon history, which we are told is not useful.
I think even more damaging than the history of the church is the general information currently available.
For many years people assumed the statements and "research" conducted by those supporting the Book of Mormon were accurate, but today we can look up sources, verify facts or inaccuracies.
So long as information is not available or known, people can assert or claim anything, but once knowledge is documented and accepted it is much harder to believe something that goes against common knowledge.
The bigger the gap between knowledge and faith the more difficult it is to remain believing.
For example it pretty difficult these days not to believe in evolution, but a hundred years ago, such a limited number of folks even understood the phenomenon that few questioned the Adam and Eve story.
Yes, the Internet has revolutionized life!

You either don't know, or your are deliberately ignoring all the information that has come out lately in support of the Book of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, and various elements of Church history. Which is it?

That goes both ways. Which is why the Book of Mormon is attracting more and more scholarly investigation from non-LDS. "Common knowledge" that the Book of Mormon is some kind of very bad 19th novel with relgiouis pretensions, when exposed to the light of better knowledge is swinging toward the Book of Mormon as an authentic ancient document.

You do not understand "faith" and "knowledge."

There is no conflict between true science and true religion. It is only when one is in error that there is a problem. Religion has often held forth a wrong position (helocentric universe, for instance). But science has often been wrong, too. Science once taught heliocentrism, you know.

Yes. Control of information has always been used to control people, and the creation of the Internet has blown information control completely off the map. The Internet is the greatest asset for spreading information ever created.
