North or South of the Border
HopeofZion recently posited the theory that the land talked about in the Book of Mormon was North America, not Central America.
Since he was unable to offer anything to support this position, I thought someone else might know more about this or might know why this is a good/bad theory?
PS Whether the Book of Mormon is true is irrelevant.

Also, the Garden of Eden was in the Saguenay region of Quebec.
I wonder if the Nephites ate Putin...

It's a good theory because the actual place names match up with Book of Mormon names. See:
It's a good theory for the additional reason that the Isthmus of Niagra is the only narrow neck of land in the Americas that's a day's journey for a Nephite (60 miles vs. 170).

This is a link to a review in FARMS about another book which puts forth the theory that the New England states were the site of the Book of Mormon events. While not the same author discussed here, it is interesing since it present much of the same information.
You might want to check out the review, and if you are itnerested, the book itself.

Hello all here,
What about the Isthmus of Rivas, in Central America, being the narrow neck of land as described in the Book of Mormon? The Isthmus of Rivas is a pretty very narrow neck of land between the Pacific Ocean on the west, and Lake Nicaragua on the east, in Central America. Here is the Link to a Web Site Page, about the Isthmus of Rivas, in Central America, being the narrow neck of land as described in a Book of Mormon Geography Setting:

You forgot to mention the crack anthropologists and archaeologists.
That's right. Thank you Sister Charity.

Interesting. Thanks Shades.
Anyone know if Joseph Smith made any official statements about this?
