All,
Has anyone here ever taken one of those paid Book of Mormon tours in Central America? If so, can you provide a few specific examples of the type of Book of Mormon evidence they highlighted? I am interested to hear from both believers and skeptics.
Thanks,
Matt

I haven't been on one of those tours myself, but my brother and his wife went on one a few years ago, and the bit of evidence they seemed most impressed with was the Izapa Stela 5 (or something like that).
Edited to add: They came home with a neat little reproduction of the Stela, and all the TBMs in my family were totally sold on it being a depiction of Lehi's Dream. Heck, I was too (this was before I started doubting the Church). Anyway, about a year or so ago, I read
this FARMS article which really kinda takes the **** out of the idea that the Stela represents anything from the Book of Mormon. I emailed it to the fam, providing my own brief intro and summary, and my mom, bless her, deleted it without reading a single word.
Why?
She doesn't read anti-Mormon stuff.

Thanks, TrashcanMan, that is the type of information for which I was looking. Anyone else?

I am happily taking a 3 week visit to Peru this summer. I will let you know forthwith if I find any iron swords or golden plates.

Cusco has a former Holy Temple that would be nice to visit:

Notice the series of rooms with the various kingdoms and stages of creation represented.
