When did Eve know 'the truth'?
"Unable to seduce Adam into taking the fruit, Satan succeeds in pursuading Eve to partake of the fruit. She, in turn tells Adam what she has done, and he partakes "that man may be." Suddenly Eve's eyes are opened, and she recognizes her tempter as "He who was cast out of father's presence for rebellion."
The above is taken from another site and it raises a question I have had for some time. If Eve ate fruit from the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil, how come she didn't know good from Evil until Adam ate the fruit? Second class citizen even then, having to have her man tell her what to think or what she 'knew'?

Hmmm...I thought that Eve recognized Satan as the deceiver before she gave Adam the fruit. I'll have to re-read... ;)

Allegory is wonderful because you can not only get much symbolism out of it, but read so much into it as well.

She did know good from evil before giving Adam the fruit.

The whole story, sounds to me like an unenlightened man about three thousand years ago who believed in a fall of some kind and didn't want men, (being the more important and righteous gender), to take the blame.

And this would relate to what I said how exactly?

Eve came to the conclusion, before partaking of the fruit, that it must be done in order to fulfill some of God's commands. This seems to have come about in conversation with Satan. However, Satan also mixed in the lie that they would not die. This also illustrates that Satan did not fully understand what was going to happen else I think he would not have tempted Eve at all (which would have stopped the plan).
