Smithmas one week, Christmas Program the next

This is my Voice in the Wilderness Plea:

In my Ward, last year, the Christmas program was split: Half for Jesus and half for Joseph Smith's Birthday - right down to the same number of songs each. From a personal point of view, I wish they would dedicate the week before exclusively for Joseph Smith and let Jesus have Christmas.

Why not dedicate the entire month before exclusively for Joseph Smith and let Jesus have Christmas?

Are you serious? I would leave if my Ward did that.

But then again, my ward would be lucky to get even 1/2 devoted to Christ. We're more of a "Jingle Bells" and Santa Claus ward.

Jesus, Santa, Rudolph... It's all pretty much the same.

That's the sort of thing that just irritates me no end, Moksha.

This year, we have a new bishop. This week, we have a missionary farewell, and I know that next week, it's all music, so I think we've escaped the whole Smithmas thing this year.

The Christmas program will be this Sunday. It hopefully it will be a remembering Jesus traditional Christmas. However, we did not have a Joseph Smith celebration last Sunday. Celebrating the Advent of the First Vision later on would be better anyway.

You've got a strange ward. That's the one of the oddest things I've heard--and I've heard a few.

We haven't heard anything about Joseph and this Sunday is our Xmas Program--all Christ centered.

The week after is my daughter's farewell--well, she's speaking. We don't have "farewells". I assume she'll speak on the Atonement and Missionary work. That was my suggestion anyway.

But not in Sacrament meeting, right? I assume you do the usual sacred music and christmas carols for church services.

I misread the OP and thought it was the Ward Christmas party (which, ironically, our ward did devote 1/2 to Jesus this year).

But if my ward devoted half of a program to Joseph Smith and then half to Jesus, I would stand up and leave. Luckily, we don't worship Joseph Smith, so that will never happen.

I don't think that they intended the inclusion of Joseph Smith into the Sacrament meeting Christmas program to be worship of Joseph Smith. Perhaps it should be thought of as adoration instead.

In any case, I am hoping this Sunday it will not happen again.
