The most important thing(s)?

Post by _moksha »

Even though I realize that not all posters on this forum are followers of Jesus or even believe in any Deity, I will base the assumption that we all subscribe to a set of our own beliefs whether we are part of a religious community or not.

Off the top of my head, I would say the most important religious principal is to obey Jesus' two greatest commandments which tell us to have love for God, our fellow beings and ourselves.

I have heard many of my fellow Mormons say that the most important thing to have Obedience to Church Authorities.

So I have a couple of questions:

1. How much do you emphasize Obedience to Church Authorities?

2. What are the most important item(s) to you?

The two greatest commandments, according to Jesus, are to love God and love thy neighbor. There's nothing in there about loving ourselves.

Sure there is.

Love your neighbor as you love yourself. Therefore, you must have some love for yourself in order to love others. Sort of a package deal.

Exactly Moshka, I believe that God loves Himself and I think He's right for doing so.

My testimony started when I read Matthew 5-6. The Church is a program theoretically to put the gospel into practice, but it's not synonymous with the gospel. I even had a bishop state this once in sacrament meeting. It's a beautiful truth. So I do it for God. I put up with the leadership and the other members for God and many of them aren't that bad. But when what you hear starts to damage that relationship with God because of someone's incorrect view of God, you have to learn what not to believe as well as what to believe to stay spiritually healthy. How do I put up with problems and imperfections in the workplace? By asking myself what is my ultimate purpose? Then remind I remind myself of my objective. My objective is my own spiritual well being. And who is most important? Well that has to be me, because ultimately that's who I'm responsible for, is it not?
