Joseph Smith was able to have a whole bunch of folks testify to miraculous things he produced, like Gold Plates. Some of these folks said even years later that what happened was real.
With his divining for gold, looking at magic peepstones, conjuring up spirits and all the rest... was Joseph Smith versed in hypnosis?

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. That way when you do criticize them you'll be a mile away and you'll have their shoes.
