How is it possible for the details of a Bishops council to come out years later and after a couple of moves?

This stuff is recorded and written and stays part of your record with lds-inc. They NEVER forget and don't believein repentance - go thy way and sin no more/all are blotted out/I will not remember them -
lds-inc knows information is power and they do not get rid of any records or evidence of wrongdoing. Never-ever. It is there just waiting for the time when they can use it. Worse than jEdgar in his ugliest red dress.

I am interested in where this information kept locally and who would have access to it. I am not interested bashing the church. But rather information / edjucation prior to taking this situation forward.

Hi and welcome to the board!
How is it possible?
Perhaps someone who was involved in the court took notes and shared them with others?
There is information kept on permanent records in SLC and specific identifying notifications on files to indicate some offenses. This would be available to any future bishop.
When a new family or member moves into a ward, prior to a calling, the Bishop is supposed to contact the previous bishop to get a sense of the member or family, so it is likely that any "private" information that is of concern gets passed along.
Hope this helps,

At the I was informed that no information would exist I have held high callings sense that time. The issue I have is that an HPGL was the one to ask me about it. I am having feelings of turning in my recommend. Is it right to carry it if I lose faith in local leaders?

The real concern is that LDS speakers need a subject to talk about and if you sit in enough meetings you will see speakers use other people's weaknesses as a subject - never names, but circumstances, yes.

Hi LBH,
Well, I'm pretty sure those involved can share the information as they want, even if it is not exactly appropriate to do so. So, long as the men involved are alive, the information exists and can be shared.
Your HPGL most likely received the information from your bishop.
In terms of turning in your recommend, well why? If you feel the temple is an important part of your spiritual journey then why eliminate it out of anger or spite?
Don't harm your world because of the lack of integrity of another.
You may not want to share any person information with the guys in your quorum. :-)

Before making any rash moves, it would be good to confront those who have apparently abused such information. People are always making mistakes and when such mistakes rankle you, why not try to get it resolved. If you do approach them do it in an open and friendly manner, so they don't go all apologetic on you and feel a need to deny everything or furnish feeble excuses. Start off with an "I" message like: "I feel hurt and betrayed that...". Then work the problem through with them as if seeking a solution, without trying to blame them or make them defensive. What is done is done. The question is how to best resolve things from this point forward. Ask them if things will be tainted for you from this point forward in the ward, and use that answer to decide.
In all actuality, I'm surprised that any records are kept. I have never had a Bishop take notes when I talked with them and they were book with many back to back appointments before and afterward. If anything was recorded it was certainly not fresh and probably contained jumbled information.

This stuff is recorded and written and stays part of your record with lds-inc.
Not in cases of disfellowshipment. If you come off of that, then your record is renewed. The Bishop may remember, but he's not supposed to divulge. In the aforementioned case of moving, if you haven't come off disfellowshipment or excommunication yet, the Bishop will surely inform the next Bishop and that is certainly not unreasonable.
And then other priesthood leaders must be informed so as not to call on you for prayers and such but they are typically not informed of what form of discipline and why unless it could cause a public problem (such as an abusive person or one with anger management issues).

In my vast experience, information regarding past discipline is extremely slow to travel. Records are kept, but there is no system that alerts leadership to issues in the absence of serious concerns (e.g., criminal behavior, excommunication, etc.). However, there are some bishops that feel like they should give the bishop in the new area a head's-up about past behavior. That can sometimes be unfortunate.
