Nice article Dan.
It appears from your opening sentence that you've come to agree with Ed Ashment.
I liked this tidbit.
""May Peace Prevail on Earth!" reads one bullet-riddled sign, in English."
I was hoping Bill would have a picture of it.
Perhaps the bullets and tanks are a fulfillment of Matthew 10:34,
"Think not that I am come to send apeace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."
In your next article you might point out that Jesus was born in Nazareth.

Too bad Jerusalem has to be such a beleaguered city for Christians. If only the United States and Great Britain had set aside Florida as the Jewish Homeland after WWII, then the Christians would only need to be beleaguered in the annexed territory surrounding Mobile, Alabama and the offshore oil platforms.
Cry Heaven and let loose the Penguins of Peace

I'm happy but quite surprised to see that my little piece has gone "national" in a minor sort of way:
http://www.realclearreligion.org/
See the second batch of articles, under "Friday."
I also got an unexpected inquiry about republication from a small newspaper in Michigan.

Glad to see you back on MDB, Dan.
Let's hope so. (Many of my Muslim friends don't have a very high opinion of Jews, those that hail from Lebanon anyway.)
Though we sometimes despair, in the end "the wrong shall fail, the right prevail, with peace on earth, good will to men."

Welcome back!
"Any over-ritualized religion since the dawn of time can make its priests say yes, we know, it is rotten, and hard luck, but just do as we say, keep at the ritual, stick it out, give us your money and you'll end up with the angels in heaven for evermore."
