An Extraordinarily Creative Fellow
I wanted to call the attention of people here to Ben Crowder:
http://bencrowder.net/
The new issue of Mormon Artist is particularly interesting to me.

Re: An Extraordinarily Creative Fellow
I looked at that current issue and was curious why I did not find anything about the Book of Mormon, Book of Abraham, or Book of Moses.
After all it is the "special science fiction and fantasy issue"...

Wonderful quote from Ben Crowder's blog:
The gospel is about doing, because doing is how the becoming happens. (And becoming like Christ is what we’re all about.)

You put this in the celestial forum so we can't write what we really think of this digital junk.
Derivative at best. Typical of Mormon copycats across the board.

I'm guessing you won't let that stop you.

I was right.

sorry neho, the forum it is in precluded me from writing what I really think of the stuff. The guy is doing nothing more than many other digital manipulators across the spectrum. Put this in a lower forum and I would post it in language it deserves.
That peterman thinks this is 'great art' is telling.

Where does it say "great art"?
Great art is created with paint and clay and pencil and ink and occasionally wood. I don't see how anything can be considered great art that is created on a computer.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

That is a pretty restrictive view of great art. I prefer something more along the lines of great art is a sensory experience that enriches or challenges the consumer in a way that they are unlikely to encounter otherwise, regardless of medium.
I don't know if I'd call it 'great', but some of Crowder's L-system sketches and animations are pretty interesting. And I have no qualms about calling some of James Christensen's work quite excellent.

Fine art and excellent work can be created in any medium, digital included. This work of nice but derivitive in so many ways. Almost makes one think the guy learned it at BYU.

I assume then that you mean you can't discuss it's merits as art in the actual language of artistic criticism then?

I don't see him saying anything of the sort.
