The Joseph Smith Translation, a gigantic waste of time...?

Post by _jon »

'The Joseph Smith Translation has restored some of the plain and precious things that have been lost from the Bible. Although it is not the official Bible of the Church, this translation does offer many interesting insights and is very valuable in understanding the Bible. It is also a witness for the divine calling and ministry of the Prophet Joseph Smith.'
(From LDS.org)

So, my question is this: What is in the JST that was lost from the Bible?

I found one example:
Luke 10:22
King James Version
'All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.'

Joseph Smith Translation
'that the Son is the Father, and the Father is the Son, but him to whom the Son will reveal it'

So, one of the plain and precious truths that Joseph Smith restored through his inspired translation was that God and Jesus are the same person, which is exactly what the Mormon Church believes today...oh...hang on...

Moses and a bunch of extra Matthew are probably the biggest contributions.

But what is plain and precious in those that weren't already in the Bible?

One thing that continues to surprise me is how much of the PGP Book of Enoch contained in Moses 5 and 6 is nowhere in the Bible but keeps cropping up in ancient Enochic texts.

Including the remarkable idea that God would weep for his wayward children.

All the Best!

i think emma got pissed when joseph was martyred, so she burned his version, a few years down the road she made her own version for whatever reason and said it was joseph's.

i could not make heads or tails of the jst seemed wacked to me.
