Apostles...witnesses of what exactly?

I ask because I was always taught that they were special witnesses of Jesus Christ himself.

And now I've just read this:
During the stake conference, Elder Bednar noted that while Apostles are ordained witnesses of the name of Jesus Christ throughout the world, they are not the only witnesses.
(article on LDS.org describing Bednars trip to England)

So I'm confused - is the terminology 'witnesses OF THE NAME of Jesus Christ' a significant change in how to describe Apostles?

Maybe they're finally ready to admit that none of them has ever seen Jesus.

Gee that's impressive. They are witnesses to a name. WOW.

I'll witness that Jesus' name was actually Yēšûă. Extra bonus name witness points for me. :)

I was wondering the same thing on another thread...

I wrote "At what point did a supposed visit from Jesus become "too sacred" to talk about? Joseph Smith didn't hide his supposed vision...and the original apostles travelled around the Mediterranean claiming they saw their master visit them after he died.

Everyone in the "scriptures" who was supposedly visited by Jesus ran around like crazy telling everyone.

But nowadays, church leaders let rumors fly that Jesus visits them, and when asked, they say it's too sacred to talk about."

Kudos to buffalo on yeshua :)

Also, the name "Jehovah" doesn't exist. It was created by people who misread "YHWH" (Yahweh). The Hebrews didn't dare utter the name of their god, and would say "addonai" (my lord) instead. Vowel markings were later added to help. Jehovah is merely a combination of the consonants of YHVH and vowels of Addonai. It's easy to see when shown in Hebrew.

I should at least get some bonus points for that as well.

Perhaps at some point the brethren will agree to submit to a lie detector test? How would you word the question if they were willing to take the test?

What special witness have you received since being called and ordained an apostle to the name of Jesus Christ.

So is "its too sacred to talk about" code for "if we leave it ambiguous we don't have to admit we haven't" They are still teaching my children in seminary that these guys have all seen Jesus. Why not say "yes we have" or "no we haven't" Is there a fear that people will try to storm SLC to see Jesus for themselves. Or that they will be drug out on a news program and forced to talk about it? If they really have shouldn't they be screaming it from the rooftops?

Just out of curiosity Nightlion how do you think a lie detector test would turn out for the brethren regarding this issue? Would you take a lie detector test regarding the Apocalrock?

Ahem...cough, cough, since all LDS are confronted repeatedly and forced to lie about masturbation their might be sufficient residual talent to fool even mother nature.

Would you take a lie detector test regarding the Apocalrock?

What are you expecting to detect? I will answer any question about it forthrightly at any time.
And I am a SENT of God and not of man apostle who did in fact receive that revelation about Jesus Christ that counts for the special witness by the gift and power and revelation of the Holy Ghost. And that was back in June of 1979.

I have not at any time seen Jesus Christ with my own eyes(eta: dreams excepted) or seen his pierced hands or thrust my hand into his side. I have heard his voice and received the word of the Lord at times and on occasion been moved upon by the power of the Holy Ghost as a testimony against the congregations of the wicked.

I am curious about what could be asked in a polygraph about the Apocalrock. The mountain is right there in front of all the world for to see it for themselves.??? My interpretations will have to be subjective to my own faith and knowledge. Of course.

Maybe I could frame a lie detector pass/fail certificate on my mantel at The Apocalrock Visitor Center at 200 South Orchard Drive #1 in North Salt Lake, Utah 84054. Keep all those cards and letters coming.
