I've been reading online about the Dead Sea Scrolls and how they are being made available online etc etc.

Reading about them has caused me to think about two questions - for which I have no answers but would be interested in the views and opinions of those more knowledgeable about these things than I.

1. Why weren't they written on plates?

2. Why weren't they written in Reformed Egyptian?

The temple scroll was written on leather, not plates. The copper scroll, one of the Dead Sea scrolls, was written on copper. However, the copper scroll is still a scroll because it was rolled up like a traditional scroll, even though it was made on metal. This is why the copper scroll had to be cut up to read, the corrosion of the copper made unrolling of the copper scroll impossible.

The Dead Sea scrolls were written in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek.
