And what exactly have our leaders told us during this last GC that will be helpful, that will guide us through this time of turmoil, that will sustain us in our hour of need? I don't recall anything, but then... I didn't hear every single word.

It was precisely the cowardly thing, however, that one of my great-grandfathers did during the recession of 1910-12. Left my great-grandmother alone to financially and otherwise take care of their six young children. Oh, when he returned from his hiatus from being a parent (I mean, serving the Lord as a missionary), he took the family car to go to a bar and get drunk. Backing away from the bar, through a gate, he tore off the front passenger door that had been left wide-open. My great-grandmother fortunately ran the family farm better than he ever could. She refused however to fix the door, and they all had to bundle pretty tightly when going anywhere in the car with no door in the dead of winter. It was, however, the symbol of his hypocrisy and she made sure the entire community could see it.

The Gospel and conservatism go hand in hand. Conservatism is the only thing temporal thing that willl help us through the turmoil. So preaching the Gospel is exactly what we needed to hear.
