Christian heresies are many. Through studying such errors as arianism, gnosticism, modalism, and pelagianism, Christians can better understand their own faith. A heresy is a deviation from the truth.
1 Corinthians 11:19 "For there must also be factions among you, that those who are approved may be recognized among you."
1. Adoptionism - God granted Jesus powers and then adopted him as a Son.
2. Albigenses - Reincarnation and two gods: one good and other evil.
3. Apollinarianism - Jesus divine will overshadowed and replaced the human.
4. Arianism - Jesus was a lesser, created being.
5. Docetism - Jesus was divine, but only seemed to be human.
6. Donatism - Validity of sacraments depends on character of the minister.
7. Gnosticism - Dualism of good and bad and special knowledge for salvation.
8. Kenosis - Jesus gave up some divine attributes while on earth.
9. Modalism - God is one person in three modes.
10. Monarchianism - God is one person.
11. Monophysitism - Jesus had only one nature: divine.
12.Nestorianism - Jesus was two persons.
13. Patripassionism - The Father suffered on the cross
14. Pelagianism - Man is unaffected by the fall and can keep all of God's laws.
15. Semi-Pelagianism - Man and God cooperate to achieve man's salvation.
16. Socinianism - Denial of the Trinity. Jesus is a deified man.
17. Subordinationism - The Son is lesser than the Father in essence and or attributes.
18. Tritheism - the Trinity is really three separate gods.
