Nephi - and the 10 commandments...
Gospel Doctrine class today includes the story from the Book of Mormon where he 'obtains' the brass plates from Laban.
(1st Nephi)
In getting the pates Nephi breaks a number of commandments.
1. He murders, in cold blood, Laban who lies unconscious in a drunken stupor.
2. He steals Laban's clothes and armour.
3. He deceives Laban's household by impersonating Laban.
4. He steals the brass plates.
5. He coerces Ishmael into tagging along.
In Mormonism - Is it okay to break any or all of the ten commandments?
Or rather - when is it okay for Mormons to break the commandments?
Commandments I think Nephi breaks
Thou shalt not kill/murder
Thou shalt not steal
Thou shalt not covet
Thou shalt not bear false witness

The Lord commanded it. Nephi had the Jolly Joker in his hand.
It beats all other cards.

And he did this so that his people could have the 10 commandments in written form so they wouldn't "dwindle" in unbelief.

But Nephi only killed a bad guy. So it was OK. He subscribed to Dexterian ethics.

This is somthing I have been thinking about lately. I used to believe in absolute morality. Mormonism beats us over the head all our lives with absolutes and it isn't true. There are indeed exceptions to all the rules.
If she asks me how her new haircut looks should I tell her its terrible? It depends on her personality and my relationship with her but probably not. I should probably lie and tell her it looks great. We all break rules and sometimes it is the right thing to do.

So, basically letting your wife run around with a crap haircut because you LIE to her is the right thing to do sometimes AND you're equating this with beheading a passed out dude and stealing from him.
Ok.
Actually, there is one absolute in the LDS religion. That is to always obey "god" no matter what jacked up crap he asks you to do.
Zelder, why do you suppose the plates were so important? What was the point of them? Also, why did Nephi use the SAME reason to kill Laban as Caiaphas used to kill Jesus? Was Laban a savior-type?

No. My wife is sexy and looks great. It's her friend. She was already ugly then she went and got a terrible haircut and looks even worse. I lied to her though and told her it looks great. I feel good about that decision too. No regrets.

God, I hope you are going to address my actual questions. :(

I wish I could but I don't think I can. Sorry. I'm really not much of an apologist. We all just believe what we want to believe.
