Articles of Faith - out of date

Post by _Drifting »

8 We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

This is the eighth article of faith.
But it seems to be missing some parts of the LDS canon.
I know some will point to the article of faith that states about believing all that God has/will reveal, but if it was important enough to distinguish which specific scriptural works are to be believed as the word of God then why not update this?

It should read 'We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon, the Book of Abraham, the Book of Moses and the Doctrine & Covenants to be the word of God'.

Shouldn't it?

And do Mormon's still believe...

10 We believe in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent...

Perhaps. But is it really needed? How catastrophic is it if not so updated?

For what it is worth, I like the poetry in the CoC/RLDS article of faith that says, "The angel has flown". Wish we had not forgotten to include it since it is rife with symbolic meaning.
