The sustaining of Church Leaders...

At the start of conference a sustaining vote is held on the Paid Clergy of the Church.
"as far as I can observe the voting has been unanimous"
What Dieter meant by this was that within the Conference Centre he couldn't see a hand raised in opposition to the sustaining vote.
What is the mechanism that the Church uses for collating how many opposing votes were cast in areas that Dieter couldn't observe?

You have to yell to get the speakers attention.
http://www.LDS.org/general-conference/1 ... s?lang=engIt seems, President Kimball, that the voting has been unanimous in favor of these officers and General Authorities, and we would ask those new members of the First Quorum of the Seventy to take their seats with their brethren, please.
Voice from the gallery: President Tanner? President Tanner?
President Tanner: Yes?
Voice from the gallery: Did you note my negative vote?
President Tanner: No. Let me see it.
Voice from the gallery: Up here.
President Tanner: Oh, up there. I’m sorry, I couldn’t see up in that gallery. We’ll ask you to see Elder Hinckley immediately after this meeting.

It's my understanding that the sustaining of leaders that takes place during GC is only meant to be a formality, and that if you would like to dissent, then it should be done at ward conference, when they ask the exact same questions.
Or maybe you could videotape yourself dissenting in your livingroom while watching conference on BYUTV and then mail it to the COB. If lots of people did that it would maybe make a statement, or at least be an inconvenience for the mail room.

well, maybe - though i did not personally attend this recent conference, it is not uncommon for a few hands to be raised in opposition - especially outside.
What Dieter meant by this was that within the Conference Centre he couldn't see a hand raised in opposition to the sustaining vote.
agreed...but i suppose you would claim that he likely used church funds to have special eye surgery that would prevent vision of such things.

Interestingly enough, when this occurs the presiding authority is to interview the objector(s) to ascertain what the cause is for the objection. If the objection is based on actual worthiness for whatever the calling is, then the presiding authority must resolve that issue. If it is caused by something else - usually personal - then the sustaining "holds" and the situation is counseled.
It is quite interesting at how most of your questions and opinions disregard the obvious theocratic structure inherent in religion.

*snort*
Yeah, too bad the presidential voting system is not like this. Romney would be in like flint.
