Brigham Young, second LDS Prophet, said, "Who can tell us of the inhabitants of this little planet that shines of an evening, called the Moon?... When you inquire about the inhabitants of that sphere you find that the most learned are as ignorant in regard to them as the most ignorant of their fellows. So it is with regard to the inhabitants of the sun. Do you think it is inhabited? I rather think it is. Do you think there is any life there? No question about it; it was not made in vain" (J. of D., Vol. XIII, p. 271). Young also said, "I have never yet preached a sermon and sent it out to the children of men, that they may not call Scripture" (Ibid., p. 95). This "scripture" about men on the moon as well as the sun by Brigham Young ought to raise eyebrows about Brigham Young's inspired messages.

Oliver B. Huntington, a devout LDS contemporary of Joseph Smith, said that Smith taught, "The inhabitants of the moon are more of a uniform size than the inhabitants of the earth, being six feet in height. They dress very much like the Quaker style and are quite general in style or fashion of dress. They live to be very old; coming generally; near a thousand years. This is the description of them as given by Joseph (Smith) the Seer, and he could see whatever he asked the Father in the name of Jesus to see" (Journal of Oliver B. Huntington, Vol. II, p. 166). That is not what the astronauts found when they went to the moon!

In Doctrine of Salvation Vol. 1 page 88-89 Joseph Fielding Smith said under Earth to be Celestial Sun, It is my opinion that the great stars that we see, including our sun, are celestial worlds; at least worlds that have passed on to their exaltation or other final resurrected status. This is in conflict, of course, with the teachings of scientific men, who declare that the sun is losing its energy and gradually cooling off and will eventually be a dead world....And this world, so benighted at present, and so esteemed by infidels, as observed by Brother Clements, when it becomes celestialized, it wil be like the sun, and be prepared for the habitation of the saints, and be brought back into the presence of the Father and the son.

Why depending on Jesus as Prophet, High Priest and Apostle is better choice, Jesus don't teach error and we can speak to him everyday

The Epistle to the
Hebrews
Hebrews 1
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets,
has in these last days spoken to us by His Son
, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;

Hebrews 3
Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our confession, Christ Jesus,

They were speaking as men, not prophets, even thought BY said everything he said from the pulpit was scripture, it wasn't, he was speaking as a man when he said that and I've used way too many commas.

What a confusing religion. I am now often told that the things that I was taught by my parents, primary, priesthood and seminary teachers, and things written by GA's were incorrect, speculation, or just plain never taught by the church. Wow, just wow. Then they try to tell me that God is not the author of confusion.

Really?

3 sourses

Neither of them doctrinal. Presentism on your part. People believed all sorts of weird things about the universe back then. Just because a man is a prophet doesn't mean his every thought is guided by the Lord.

This is exactly why one shouldn't listen to Conference.
One has no method for discerning which end the Prophet is speaking out of until decades later when bcspace will let one know.

You can read them as doctrine mere hours after the fact.

Unfortunately what is written isn't necessarily what they said...

Apostle GQ Canon stated:

"The Journal of Discourses deservedly ranks as one of the standard works of the Church, and every rightminded Saint will certainly welcome with joy every Number as it comes forth from the press as an additional reflector of 'the light that shines from Zion's hill.'"

I think an Apostle's view Trump's yours bc...
