I've heard that Mormons believe that all feelings of peace and joy come from God, and negative feelings of fear and despair come from the devil, but I've had dreams that started out comforting (producing feelings of peace and joy), but ended disturbing (producing feelings of hopelessness, fear, and despair); where does that come from?
Can the devil intrude into our dreams?
Can he tell when we're feeling good, and inject something to really mess with our minds?

I don't think I'm talking about the same kind of dreams you are.
So just to clarify, I'm not talking about dreams with any sexual content.
The hopelessness, fear and despair usually come from a word or two that I see or hear (and I'm usually feeling pretty good until the meaning of the word or phrase sinks in, and I wake up confused and disturbed.)
Just as an example:
Lets say you're dreaming of heaven.
You feel the joy and peace, you're basking in it's beauty, and then you see the words "this is as close as you're ever gonna get" before you wake up.
Wouldn't you find that disturbing?
If the joyful and peaceful feelings were from God, could He actually be telling you that you're not gonna make it?
If that disturbing message was from the devil, where did the joyful and peaceful feelings come from?
(This is the kinda thing I was thinking of when I asked if the devil could know what you were dreaming, and interject something at the right time to really mess with your mind.)

I just read this.
http://en.wikipedia...._movement_sleep
If one human being can tell when another human being is having a dream he's gonna remember (by looking at his eye movement), could the devil tell when we're dreaming the same way?
Subjects' vividly recalled dreams mostly occur during REM sleep

Maybe our mixed dreams come from our collective unconscious. I imagine we have a lot of unworked through problems stored there. Things regarding sex, violence and cabbage might emerge and require digestion in our dreams.
