Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman, who roiled Utah’s political waters when he endorsed civil unions for gay and lesbian couples, said America needs to continue its pursuit of "equality under the law," but said states should decide how to deal with same-sex marriage.

"What’s important here is people having the conversation about inclusiveness and about fairness and about equality under the law," Huntsman said Thursday. "It’s hard to know what the wrapping looks like, what the definition and term happens to be, and each state might end up doing it a little differently, but the end point ought to be equality under the law."

Huntsman and his wife, Mary Kaye, received the Allies For Equality award from Equality Utah, the state’s leading advocacy group on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender individuals.

from article cited in OP
"Brandie Balken, executive director of Equality Utah, said she wasn’t disappointed that Huntsman did not endorse same-sex marriage."

Why didn't you quote the bit where Huntsman say's he is against same-sex marriage....?

why did you not mention what sin might merit a court of love?

Well, that's confidential but it's definitely not political *wink, wink*

according to church handbook a disciplinary council is necessary for:
1.murder
2.incest
3.child abuse
4.serious transgression
5.apostasy
6.predatory behavior

may be necessary:
1. serious transgression
2. abortion
3. transsexual operation

which if these did you consider, from the cited article in your OP, applied to Mr. Huntsman?

Probably because some do not wish to mention "the sin that dare not speak its own name": The sin of not toeing the company line. Once spoken, nothing more needs be said.*

*Although some military types will call it insubordination and those with an eye for sheep and mashed potatoes will call it apostasy.

With all the money that the Huntsman family gives to the church I think he can say just about anything he wants. Hell, he could probably soak in a hot tub with 14 year old girls and get away with it. Oh wait that was some other rich well contected Mormon guy.
