Appreciating the Teachings of Jesus

Jesus brought a revolutionary message to a people who reveled in the massacre and rape of their enemies. He taught love, forgiveness and mercy to a world sadly lacking in these qualities and actions. He took his message to the streets and decried those so mired in tradition that they did not see the truth of what he was advocating. He taught that transcendence of the self came through casting aside worldly desires and seeking to treat others as they would like to be treated. When they had healed their own wounds, they would find the divine which they sought within and around them.

Jesus drew arrows on the path toward being nicer to others.

The book Disappearance of the Universe by Gary Renard describes the method Jesus used to forgive. Gary's teachers in this book were two well known disciples of Jesus. They describe Jesus' teachings on forgiveness and how to experience God and also correct some historical inaccuracies in the Gospels. For example Jesus did not say "love your enemies" because Jesus did not see anyone as an enemy. Actually John the Baptist made that statment and it was mistakenly attributed to Jesus. This book will give you a much deeper appreciation for Jesus.

Sort of, but not nearly as much as we likely should.

I think some people enshrine the teachings of Jesus in such a way that they miss the overall theme.
