Some things that are true are not very useful. Boyd K Packer
Why would anyone in The Church want to know the truth of who wrote this song? Eliza R. Snow Smith already has enough fame from the hymn O'My Father as well as having had Emma Smith push her down a flight of stairs.
For some odd reason the author of this hymn was changed. A Revelation maybe?

(- Whenever a poet or preacher, chief or wizard spouts gibberish, the human race spends centuries deciphering the message. - Umberto Eco) Seems familiar?
by the way
In our extended family we have an old lady - otherwise a loveable person - who develops every illness every time she reads something about. Then she romances volumes about the symptoms.
She will die of a printer's error.
