Child abuse takes place everywhere. In families, churches, organizations and schools/universities. This is already bad enough! I but still worse think how they handle that. The RCC has refused, that in Germany e.g. a scientific refurbishing of their abuse scandal happens.
But I wanted not to talk about the RCC but about the LDS.
As survivour of sexual abuse (done by my father and my uncle, two members of the church); I know what I talk about.
The bishop and the members did not want to believe it; blame me for made it public. As if a child could force an adult man to the sex with six years. This is ridiculous !!!
I was not believed to my father and my uncle. Even my own mother believed him although she knew the truth anyway.
I heard that the LDS has a hotline in cases of child abuse now. Only bishops and stake presidents may, however, call there; not the simple members. And as I heard, cases of child abuse further take place in the LDS; this one being not notified of to the police by the church leaders.
It is not all about for me accusing the LDS but improving something therefore.

First, I am sorry that you had to go through the trauma of sexual abuse, and the fact that no one has responded to you in any way is sad. It seems as if you have had therapy, BRAVO! and I am glad that you are on the road of recovery. Take it from another abuse victim, it is a long, hard road from being a victim to being a victor. Being a survivor is a road stop on that journey.

Are you single? Are you an adult? Those are questions that I ask not for personal information gathering; rather they are to help you. In almost every city or county in the US, there is an abuse and rape crisis center staffed by caring women. I suggest that you avail yourself of their services.

How long ago did that abuse happen? A crime was committed against yourself, and IMHO it is necessary to go through the law enforcement authorities for two reasons:

FIRST is that you are most likely the only victim in your extended family. If that is the case, then you have an on-going case of rape that is considered "normal and accepted behavior"
SECOND is the fact that you have uncovered an ostrich approach among your church leaders, and in doing so are either complicit in abuse, or are abetting abuses for others.

LAST, I urge you to think about what this "ostrich-like behavior" tells you about the church leadership. The Catholic church has suffered greatly for the pedophilia cases it has world wide and covered up. If they are not immune to prosecution, then why should the LDS church not be similarly liable when they refuse to discipline its members, or report that abuse to the authorities?
