Hilary Weeks song for SM
I have been asked to sing in Sacrament Meeting in a few weeks, and I have always wanted to sing "He Hears Me" by Hilary Weeks in that setting. I am worried about the appropriateness of that song in SM. Thoughts??? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Hilary Weeks song for SM
For reference, here are the lyrics:
Here I am again, down on my knees
And with every pleading word, Thy comfort I seek
Though the words are slow to come,
My thoughts are racing by
Peace fills the room, Thy spirit is night
He hears me
When I'm crying in the night
He hears me
When my soul longs to fight
Till the morning will come
And the light of the dawn reassures...
He hears me
Any hour, wherever I may be
In the silence of an empty room, or on a crowded street
Whether offering thanks, or in urgency I pray
I never go unnoticed, I'm never lead astray
Chorus
Any whisper of the soul
No matter how old
Father hears the call
Here I am again, down on my knees
And with every pleading word, Thy comfort I seek
Though the words are slow to come,
My thoughts are racing by
Peace fills the room, Thy spirit is night
He hears me
When I'm crying in the night
He hears me
When my soul longs to fight
Till the morning will come
And the light of the dawn reassures...
He hears me
Any hour, wherever I may be
In the silence of an empty room, or on a crowded street
Whether offering thanks, or in urgency I pray
I never go unnoticed, I'm never lead astray
Chorus
Any whisper of the soul
No matter how old
Father hears the call

It is appropriate....and likely will be appreciated.

Thanks for the feedback. I think it is appropriate as well, especially this arrangement we're doing with only the piano. Also, thanks for the welcome, it's good to be here!

Have you considered "enter sandman" by metallica sung to the tune of "in our lovely deseret"?

My last Stake President's guidance was that if a song was not in the green hymn book you did not sing it.

according to the church handbook, ward music falls under the jurisdiction of the Bishopric.
"Music should be worshipful and fit the spirit of the meeting.
...
If musical selections other than the hymns are used, they should be keeping with the spirit of the hymns."
The music noted in the OP is easily appropriate by church guidelines and common sense.
as for the Metallica suggestion - "Secular music should not replace sacred music in Sunday meetings."

We're committed to this Hillary Weeks piece for now. But I'll for sure keep in mind your idea for the next time they ask me to sing.

I think "Paranoid" by Black Sabbath would be appropriate for a number of reasons.
