Moms, their Babies and Blessings

Letting a Mom be part of a circle blessing her Baby!!!???

The very thought brings images a lava flow erupting from the Pit of Chaos!

I can see Tevye circling around this situation even now shouting the words "Tradition!" and "the Papas!".

Including the mother in the blessing???!!!

What could anyone possibly be thinking to do such a thing?

I can sort of see this as passing on a tradition in a meaningful sense of love and spirituality, but come on, it is clearly written in the Blessings Code Annotated, Section 312, Sub-section 42B, Paragraph 21 "That no one of the female persuasion may approach or be part of any ceremony conferring or suggesting a blessing, ordinance or BYU football discussion."

Miscreants need to realize that the rules are the rules, and as such must be regarded as hard and unyielding regulations, and Trump all other individual desires and spiritual considerations.

Much more coherent and rational counter opinions are encouraged.

Apologetic Argument 1.

"Heavenly Father allows women to bear the children in the first place, nurture them, feed them and mother them through to adulthood. The Priesthood is God's way of allowing men to feel an equal part in that process."

Yawn!
Aside from the usual adolescent of "why not" argument offered by posters like Zooka.... is there an actual rationale, reason, excuse, etc. for having the mother be in the circle?
Are you finding that a majority of mothers are suffering the calamity of exclusion as they watch this ordinance performed? Why are the mothers not holding the hands of the Deacons as they pass sacrament...surely their feminine nature is irked at the audacity of a young man passing bread around the room....the nerve!

Currently my position is found in D&C 20:70 -
"Every member of the church of Christ having children is to bring them unto the elders before the church, who are to lay their hands upon them in the name of Jesus Christ, and bless them in his name”

If you have had a revelation that justifies subverting this revelation, then please, bring it up at next GC for sustaining.

It doesn't say anything about mothers not holding their babies/children during the blessing. That particular passage also does not preclude women being elders.

So high priests aren't allowed to bless babies, that's your position?

It is not revelation, it is a base chivalry.

Elder (administrative title)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term Elder (or its equivalent in another language) is used in several different countries and organizations to indicate a position of authority. This usage is usually derived from the notion that the oldest members of any given group are the wisest, and are thus the most qualified to rule, provide counsel or serve the said group in some other capacity.

Would anybody - or especially You - address any woman as oldest?

When we have the 35th anniversary of our graduation in middle school (warning! it is called high school in US...), all of female classmates were ten years younger than we, miserable males. By default.

nope.
this would be easier if you had copy of the scriptures, doncha agree?

"The term elders is used in various ways in the Bible. In many instances in the Old Testament it has reference to the older men in a tribe, usually entrusted with the governmental affairs. Their age and experience made their counsel sought often. This was not necessarily a priesthood calling. Gen. 50:7, Ruth 4:2, Matt. 15:2, and Acts 4:5 are examples of this usage.

There were ordained elders in the Melchizedek Priesthood in Old Testament times, as in Ex. 24:9–11 and Num. 11:16. Among the Nephites there were also ordained elders in the priesthood (Alma 4:7, 16; 6:1; Moro. 3:1; 4:1; 6:1, 7). In the New Testament, elders are mentioned as priesthood offices in the church (Acts 14:23; 1 Tim. 5:1, 17, 19; James 5:14–15). The term elder as used in the New Testament is from the Greek presbyteros. The detailed duties of the ordained elders in the Church today have been defined by latter-day revelation (D&C 20:42–45; 42:44–52; 46:2; 107:12).

Elder is the proper title given to all holders of the Melchizedek Priesthood. Thus an Apostle is an elder in this sense, and it is proper to speak of members of the Quorum of the Twelve or the Quorums of the Seventy by this title (D&C 20:38; see also 1 Pet. 5:1; 2 Jn. 1:1; 3 Jn. 1:1). See also Ministry."

D&C 20:74 seems fairly gender specific.....
