Abraham 4:

22 And it came to pass when I was come near to enter into Egypt, the Lord said unto me: Behold, Sarai, thy wife, is a very fair woman to look upon;

23 Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see her, they will say—She is his wife; and they will kill you, but they will save her alive; therefore see that ye do on this wise:

24 Let her say unto the Egyptians, she is thy sister, and thy soul shall live.

25 And it came to pass that I, Abraham, told Sarai, my wife, all that the Lord had said unto me—Therefore say unto them, I pray thee, thou art my sister, that it may be well with me for thy sake, and my soul shall live because of thee.

Why did GOD tell Abraham to lie when God was able to destroy the Midianites with a few men
Or destroy Sennacherib’s army with an army of Angels ?

Genesis 20

1 And Abraham journeyed from there to the South, and dwelt between Kadesh and Shur, and stayed in Gerar. 2 Now Abraham said of Sarah his wife, “She is my sister.” And Abimelech king of Gerar sent and took Sarah.

3 But God came to Abimelech in a dream by night, and said to him, “Indeed you are a dead man because of the woman whom you have taken, for she is a man’s wife.”

4 But Abimelech had not come near her; and he said, “Lord, will You slay a righteous nation also? 5 Did he not say to me, ‘She is my sister’? And she, even she herself said, ‘He is my brother.’ In the integrity of my heart and innocence of my hands I have done this.”

6 And God said to him in a dream, “Yes, I know that you did this in the integrity of your heart. For I also withheld you from sinning against Me; therefore I did not let you touch her. 7 Now therefore, restore the man’s wife; for he is a prophet, and he will pray for you and you shall live. But if you do not restore her, know that you shall surely die, you and all who are yours.”

8 So Abimelech rose early in the morning, called all his servants, and told all these things in their hearing; and the men were very much afraid. 9 And Abimelech called Abraham and said to him, “What have you done to us? How have I offended you, that you have brought on me and on my kingdom a great sin? You have done deeds to me that ought not to be done.” 10 Then Abimelech said to Abraham, “What did you have in view, that you have done this thing?”

11 And Abraham said, “Because I thought, surely the fear of God is not in this place; and they will kill me on account of my wife. 12 But indeed she is truly my sister. She is the daughter of my father, but not the daughter of my mother; and she became my wife. 13And it came to pass, when God caused me to wander from my father’s house, that I said to her, ‘This is your kindness that you should do for me: in every place, wherever we go, say of me, “He is my brother.”’”

Can we believe Abraham told the TRUTH here or did he lie again to Abimelech ?

When writing fiction, it's hard to keep every detail straight.

And so did Abraham in the Bible, and then god punishes Pharaoh because of Abraham's lie, apparently give the seal of approval to the lie..... Is there a point?

Both Pharaoh and Abimelech were punished for falling for Abraham's lie . However Abimelech was warned by God and he was spared .

The record is about Abraham being told to lie to save his life and not that God tells us to lie. I've told lies to save my own skin all the while praying that I have success with my lie and it worked - I lied successfully and received the thing for which I asked; I knocked and the door was opened. The Lord hears and answers the prayers of liars - it is likely that Abraham initiated the lie hoping to save himself and his wife and the Lord saved him in spite of his lie.

Very interesting stuff...it is wrong to lie (I agree) but the Lord still aids liars sometimes even in their lies - it was a lie to deceive Isaac but out of it came the tribes of Israel - Judah fornicated with his daughter-in-law and out of that came the Saviour so although sins are not justified we are not completely cut off because of them.

Even Mormon publication teaches Abraham lied

Lying is intentionally deceiving others. Bearing false witness is one form of lying. The Lord gave this commandment to the children of Israel: “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour” (Exodus 20:16). Jesus also taught this when He was on earth (see Matthew 19:18). There are many other forms of lying. When we speak untruths, we are guilty of lying. We can also intentionally deceive others by a gesture or a look, by silence, or by telling only part of the truth. Whenever we lead people in any way to believe something that is not true, we are not being honest.

Would God tell Abraham to lie like the Book of Abraham teaches
