If you acknowledge Christ said the words attributed to him in the Bible, or the Book of Mormon, and if you have covenanted, witnessed, or promised to obey his commandments by baptism, you're on the hook to perform that which you said you would do.

My performance of my obligations to Christ has no relevant connection with your failure to perform yours.

But it is a favorite response of hypocrites - those who don't really believe in God, whose discipleship to Christ is feigned, who keep not his commandments, and don't want to keep his commandments - to inquire after the personal obedience of the ones teaching his commandments.

After all, if the speaker is a hypocrite, then, OF COURSE, Christ must not have said what is attributed to him in the Bible or the Book of Mormon, and that lets everyone off the hook, right?

But no, Jesus said what he said - regardless of who repeats it.

The only issue facing you, dear reader, is whether you, yourself, are doing it. Anything else is sideshow and distraction. Which is, of course, the point, isn't it?

Christ never wrote anything down. Everything available which is said to have been spoken by Him is hearsay. I have faith that He spoke them...though I don't know for sure how accurate they are. That said, I believe He was a true messenger...just as there have been others from time to time; though His role is unique above all others in our universe. That role is as our Christ...the Administrator for our world. When He returns He will establish the same government that has been used worlds without end. Meanwhile, we will have had plenty of time to either believe what He taught, or not. We will have had plenty of time to live what He taught, or not. We have the free will to choose.

This is what Christ taught about oath-taking. Anything more than yea,yea or nay, nay cometh of evil:

Matthew 5:33 ¶Again, ye have heard that it hath been said by them of old time, Thou shalt not forswear thyself, but shalt perform unto the Lord thine oaths:

34 But I say unto you, Swear not at all; neither by heaven; for it is God’s throne:

35 Nor by the earth; for it is his footstool: neither by Jerusalem; for it is the city of the great King.

36 Neither shalt thou swear by thy head, because thou canst not make one hair white or black.

37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.

Because they came to Him with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, they were baptized with fire and the Holy Ghost without even knowing it. They never entered into a covenant. There was no priesthood ordinance of the laying on of hands. Christ did the baptizing....He wasn't even there with them. Obviously part of the understanding is not plainly expressed. But the message is there.

3 Nephi 9:20

20 And ye shall offer for a sacrifice unto me a broken heart and a contrite spirit. And whoso cometh unto me with a broken heart and a contrite spirit, him will I baptize with fire and with the Holy Ghost, even as the Lamanites, because of their faith in me at the time of their conversion, were baptized with fire and with the Holy Ghost, and they knew it not.

I think if you enter "contract law" into Google's search engine, you will get helpful links on that issue. As for me, I haven't a use for sideshow nor distraction.

If I had any doubt how seriously the posters and moderators took the rules of the forum, Quasimodo's post would have removed it. But, as it is, it is quite in harmony with the theme of the thread - the post, that is, not the video.

The moderators here do a very good job and don't take themselves quite as seriously as you may.

You are not the only recent poster that this is directed at. However, there is a button at the bottom of this window that you can use to alert the Mods of a post (or link) you may find objectionable.

I'm sorry, log, if you felt I was being passive/ aggressive.

I love this board, but one of the down sides is that people occasionally come here to tell us what God thinks. I weary of that. It's so presumptuous.
