Sorry Zakuska, but it's probably a good thing. If they enforce the rules for both sides, I think it will help the atmosphere of MADB. What thread was it?

Sput cited Beasties' questioning his age as one example, but it was asked on this board and it wasn't much of an insult, if you ask me. Besides, it was a legitimate question since if he had been younger, she would have cut him a little bit more slack.

You mean if he is younger. He felt to insulted too ever answer the question.

I only saw LDS posters who were offenders. As I pointed out on sput's thread, We could see that more was being allowed, but it was only the LDS posters who were taking advantage of the loosening standards. I did not see critics try and push the limits. Sput cited Beasties' questioning his age as one example, but it was asked on this board and it wasn't much of an insult, if you ask me. Besides, it was a legitimate question since if he had been younger, she would have cut him a little bit more slack.

Also, most critics who might have tried to take advantage of the loosening up were not there, as they'd already been banned.

I did not mean it as an insult, and asked here rather than there in case the answer was embarrassing to him. I absolutely would treat a youngster much differently than an adult posting the type of things he was posting. On my old atheist board, we had several teens who posted and while I wouldn't refrain from pointing out problems with their logic or claims if need be, I always honestly praised them for being so interested in a complicated subject at such a young age. I would definitely not have used sput's young age to "insult" him, but rather to back off in the way I used to on that board. I would have told him he was way more thoughtful than I remember being at his age, and to continue to think and question and learn. Young people who are willing to turn off MTV and think about serious issues need to be praised, and I would have honestly been embarrassed had I been too harsh with a teenager.

Frankly, Zakuska, I think this is ridiculous. You are the all-time highest poster on the fittingly named MADboard, and they're sticking you in a time out??? What, are you three years old or something? You have contributed countless hours to that board, Zak, and they are treating you like this. Really, you deserve better.

Apparently Dr. Peterson is getting tired of the attacks also, as Charity opened a thread about it, to which the mods responded that they would discuss the situation.

A thread over on RfM claims that DCP has left MAD. Is this true? I'd check for myself, but have been banned from even reading the bb.

I think he pulled a Benson and announced a sabbatical from MAD for a while. But I haven't checked.

On reflection, I'm done. I've grown very tired of my character and personality being a focus here (and elsewhere). I don't need it. Thick-skinned though I am, I'm weary of the insults and the gratuitous assaults. I'm tired of my sense of humor being completely misinterpreted and my writing style treated as evidence of malevolence and vanity, and have come to think that my participation on this board simply opens me up to gross misinterpretation. I'm interested in discussing issues, but not at all interested in discussing myself. It has always struck me as unseemly for me to be continually obliged to defend myself against charges (typically by people who've never met me) that I'm mean, hateful, bigoted, arrogant, gluttonous, dishonest, and the like. The Pantsman and blueadept nonsense is simply the last straw.

Accordingly, from here on out, I'll limit my participation on this board to occasionally announcing publications that I think people ought to know about.

I imagine that there will be considerable crowing in certain circles, and cynical predictions that I'll be back soon, but, frankly, I don't much care. I've wasted too much time on message boards anyway.

Zakuska, just keep in mind that this place stands as a haven for those times you want to color outside the lines. No one here to be overbearing towards you or withdraw their support.
