You say that people should marry out of "love." The problem with this word is that it seems to be largely self defined especially when applied to romantic relationships, hence we really don't know have a way to understand what it means when we use it in speech. What exactly is romantic love to you, from both a male and a female perspective?
Is the principle of polygamy unethical?

Hi Ajax... :-)
You say that people should marry out of "love."
I do think that today with evolved humans, a union between a man and a woman has the potential to be a relationship of love and care rather than one of ownership as it has been for basically all of history.
For some species in the animal world, mating involves nothing but sperm donation of a male.
OTOH, humans have the ability to bring a sense of emotional intimacy into relationships....
In modern day enlightened marriages, I believe the unity and bond and love that can existe between a man and a woman (with equality, partnership, emotional and physcial sharing and uniting, etc,), is beyond anything that has existed in the previous history of our earth.
The emotions that can exist in a united, equal, loving partnership are something quite new .... much different from sperm donation prior to the existence of a male being able to bond with other human beings.
It is clear to me that the intimacy, love, bond, balance, and emotional connectedness that is possible in the human is not possible in a harem arrangement.
We know that the harem arrangement is not how humans have evolved. They pair bond. Period. There is absolutly no question about this. Even when a harem existed, there is a pair bond, with sexual encounters with various slaves, concubines, or wives by a powerful owner/leader.
in my opinion, there are very clear and specific reasons why this is so and it has to do with an evolved sense of our humanness and how the universe is unfolding.
Hope that answers your quesiton. :-)
