Name one politician who does not change.
There's a difference between honest, principled change and flip-flopping to gain political advantage. I think that the willingness and ability to change one's mind is an admirable trait. In contrast, I think that unprincipled flip-flopping to pander to voting blocs is less admirable, although at times necessary and to be expected.
Politicians may also not really feel that strongly about something and make up their minds depending on political advantage. That's fine too; we all do something like that. There are many things I believe, but I'm not really committed to them, and for practicality's sake I'd consider or be willing to compromise or change my mind.
I agree. I view John Kerry's positions on the Iraq war that such a stupid issue was made of as an honest change by the man but he failed to explian it well and the talking heads kept spinning it against him. I also view Romney's expanation of his changes on abortion as an honest change.
What makes Romney the frontrunner? The last poll I saw he had like 3% or something. McCain and Guiliani are both running well ahead of Romney. Here's a link from Pollster.com (first graph) that keeps track of various polls and possible matchups.
It is interesting to note that Romney has been steadily rising (although he is still low overall).

Obama just announced he has 25 million just trailing Clinton at 26 mil. Romney had 23 mil I think.
I think the best judge for money raising ability is the number of possible donors. Obama (same link as above) announced 100,000 donors while Hilary had 50,000 and Guiliani had 60,000 (If I recall correctly). I heard some speculation that Hilary might have maxed out some of her big donors to jump into the money lead (If I recall correctly again).
I don't know how many donors Romney claimed. Has anyone seen yet?
by the way: Here's a link to the Romney campaign money total. Interesting to note that all the money he has raised so far is for primaries only, which means that he can go back to donors for the general election.
