Fundamentalist Mormon Homeschool Readers

Post by _Blixa »

I found these three .pdf versions of Hilldale/Short Creek school text books online at the Child Protection Project website (http://www.childpro.org/). I stumbled on them looking for information on the Kingston family polgamists; I've been wondering if the Greenes on Big Love aren't Kingston to Juniper Creek's Short Creek (though the Greene's have a bit of LaBaron in them too).

I thought these were interesting (and the photo illustrations nearly look lke they were taken on the set of Big Love).

I wasn't familiar with the name "Eph" (the second reader is about a "fine lad" named Eph who calls his father on the phone to talk to him about The Prophet). I was thinking it was pronounced "eff." But then I realized it must be a diminuative of Ephriam and pronounced "eeph." Is this right? Has any body heard this before?

The .pdf's also have some comments handwritten on the pages. At first I thought they were a child's work because "Amy At Night" has the answers to the reading questions filled in. But its obvious the other two are the remarks of adults. The last book has the comment "This is a book about sisterwives," but I'm not sure that's correct. Aren't all the sisters in it meant to be taken as biological relatives (not that sisterwives can't be) even if from different mothers?

Brainwash while you teach reading! Sweeeeet.

I did wonder if FLDS like the term "keep sweet", because Nikki has used it a couple of time.

Is the prophet in the pix Warren Jeffs?
We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

Great stuff for my small, but growing language school here! Thanks, Blixa

Keep sweet,

Very truly yours,

gramps

p.s. Beastie, I do think that you are right about the picture.
I detest my loose style and my libertine sentiments. I thank God, who has removed from my eyes the veil...
