The leaders of the twelve human colonies are making plans to sign a peace treaty with their mortal enemies, the Cylons. On the eve of the ceremony, the Cylons attack and destroy most of the colonies. The remaining Colonial ships, led by the battlestar Galactica under the command of Adama, head out into space and seek out a "lost" 13th colony, which turns out to be Earth. Along the way, the Colonials encounter various races (both friendly and hostile), the legendary human warrior Commander Cain, and the planet Kobol, the mother world of all the colonies. All the while, the Cylons--led by the human traitor, Baltar--are in hot pursuit.

Ewwww... this gives me the exact same uneasy feeling as xtian rock does.

I just can't stand it when religious types want to mix something good with religion to try to make their religion somehow better by association.
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Okay, since the thread is going sci-fi, I feel I have to chime in.

I have fond memories of the old Battlestar Galactica, as I watched it every Sunday as a kid. I think the old Galactica serious was more modeled after the lost children of Israel, not Mormonism specifically. The new Battlestar Galactica, though, is awesome! One of the best shows on TV IMHO. Very gritty, with interesting twists and character plots. Didn't like Starbuck or Boomer being girls, but it grows on you.

I will have to second AmazingDisgrace's Star Wars belief. I think I sometimes have more faith in Jedi-ism than I do the church.

I will have to say that Farscape was a pretty good series as well.

Never was a trekkie. Although I did watch most of the Deep Space Nine and Voyager series (mainly because of 7 of 9's outfit!)

skippy the dead wrote:According to charity on the other board (in a thread about LDS or Christian-influenced shows), this is the purpose of our existence:

charity wrote:There was an epidsode of Star Trek which had LDS teachings in it. Two Enterprise crew members get struck by lightining or something and start to develop super powers. The male goes all power mad, thinks everyone else is just ants and he can kill as he pleases, but the female recognizes that super power can be really bad, and zaps him after he has zapped her and she is dying.

We are tested here to see who can be trusted with the "super powers" of godhood.

(exact post here.)

If this had been how the gospel were taught in Sunday School, I may have stuck around a bit longer! I can imagine the lessons now: "Brothers and Sisters, we are here on this earth to see whether we'd kill people like ants, or kill those who would kill people like ants."

Of course, charity didn't indicate which way was the "right" way. ;o)

I think Charity got it backwards. In light of the genocidal tendencies of God in the Old Testament, and the delight in killing he manifests in the Book of Mormon, God is, rather, interested in which of us have the guts, and take delight, in killing sinners.

What good Father doesn't want his children to grow up to be just like him?

The terrorists/killers of 9-11 are closer to Godhood than Charity is.

The genocidal accounts in the Old Testament are lies. Not that the Children of Israel never did it but after the fact their Scriptures were altered to justify it.

Hmmm. Then why didn't Joseph Smith take out the lies when he revised the scriptures by inspiration?
