that's pretty interesting, I wasn't aware of that. i wonder if there is a fad element to it. The reason why I mentioned the "decide for yourself" is that I've ran into that so often on youtube videos in recent years. But now you mention that book, I recall back in the day, when i was a teenager and a friend got me interested in conspiracy theories, there definitely was the hidden knowledge angle regarding all the free-energy related discoveries by Nikola Tesla that few if any could ever replicate. A big name in that field was Tom Bearden. At a temp job I had, I ran into a guy with a common interest, who claimed to have been working with a physicist in his garage who was building a free-energy device. He offered the name Henry Moray (a Mormon even), who I had heard about, but he said a big secret for tuning a tesla coil right to achieve free energy, was in this book he'd written that was nearly impossible to get. He claimed to have ten copies of the book and declined to let me borrow one. So I went to the biggest and baddest used bookstore around and put a hold on that book should one come in. Years later my parents got a call about one coming in but I'd moved on. Pretty sure it's available to anyone now.

they originated in the Great Lakes areas, at LEAST THE ONES WHO
HAVE BEEN PROVEN WITH THE 5 Haplo Group X DNA markers tied to
ISRAELI & IRANIAN JEWISH LINES that are more PURE over many
centuries. This PUTS TO REST much of the ANTI-MORMON rhetoric about
DNA. Joseph Smith was right, & sent the first missionaries to the N.E.
Natives. He wrote to Emma going on Zion’s Camp, that they were walking
the plains of the Nephites. There is so much more evidence.
Even the HISTORY CHANNEL has shown evidence that is germane to
Rod’s & Jonathan’s research and Joseph Smith, in 2 specials about the
Aztecs coming from Wisconsin originally, and their ancient sacred maps
show Central UTAH area to be one of their ancient sacred lands. Another
History Channel “America Unearthed” programs showed thousands of sites
on the U.S. Eastern board with what they called ceremonial sites, but they
all sure looked like baptismal fonts and temple areas to me!
What matters is that we have a testimony of the Book of Mormon, but
because of all the ANTI-MORMON stuff about the Meso-America model of
the Book of Mormon, 3-5 top reasons why we are losing 40% of our Youth
who are LEAVING THE CHURCH in Utah County for instance, would be
addressed and proven with all the research Rod & Jonathan have done!
The fact that we LIVE on this covenant land, and that 52% of ALL
AMERICAN YOUTH now believe in Communism, Socialism or some form
of those “isms” (similar to the “ites” in the Book of Mormon?) according to a recent poll
on Trunews.com, THIS IS OF GRAVE CONCERN!

I've seen lots of cases where crackpots appeal to their audience to "make up their own mind" and not take their word for it. Of course, the judicial process involves comparing a real theory that might not be easy to comprehend let alone master with something that resonates with whimsical fascination.

Yeah, that rings a bell, too. I guess I have not yet finalized the general theory of crackpots.

Sometimes the direction to "make up your own minds" seems kind of rhetorical because it really means, "Contemplate the evidence that you can't actually get and conclude that I'm right". But I agree that sometimes it's exactly a matter of telling people to trust their own naïve instincts about stuff that is actually a lot more complicated than that.

The two approaches aren't necessarily incompatible. Flat Earthism, for instance, tells people to trust their own simple impression that the ground seems pretty level over weird notions of folks somehow sticking to the other side of the dadgummed world and not falling off. Yet when anyone pauses to wonder about ships sailing over the horizon or something, then suddenly it's the Zetetic Law of Perspective as rigorously proven in an old book from 1881.

Figuring out the general theory of crackpots is looking harder than I thought. Wait, I have an idea.

My original theory was perfect and I have an irrefutable proof of it, written in Reformed Braille on a stack of tinfoil sheets. I have a feeling that a benevolent alien is going to take the tinfoil sheets back to Saturn real soon now but I'm going to sign some witness names to a statement so it will all still be cool.

PG, I've been working on a unified field theory of crackpottery for some time now. Every event generates an evidence field. Although the event itself becomes instantly inaccessible through the passage of time, the corresponding field persists in time and decays at a much slower rate. As a result of conservation of information, we should be able to perfectly reconstruct the event from the information in the evidence field.

Unfortunately, I have a discovered a that any evidence field sufficient complete to perfectly reconstruct its corresponding event is self contradictory, the details of which will not fit within the margins of this post. The self-contradictions causes spontaneous symmetry breaking of the evidence field, producing an equivalent anti-evidence field. The two annihilate, leaving no accessible information.

As a result, any existing evidence fields are incomplete, with the incompleteness manifest as anomaly nodes within the field. Through principles of spontaneous self-organization, an anomaly field form that connects these nodes. But where the evidence field was created by and corresponds with actual events, the anomaly field generates pairs of virtual reality/anti-reality particles. Normally these pairs self annihilate in milliseconds. But under certain circumstances, such as at the event horizon of a black hole, the virtual reality particle can generate inside the event horizon while the virtual anti-reality particle generates outside the event horizon. The virtual reality particle is trapped inside the black hole, transforming the virtual anti-reality particle into an actual anti-reality particle.

From time to time, these anti-reality particles pass through the brains of humans. Occasionally the wave form of these particles interacts in predictable ways with the individuals brain wave functions, resulting in predictable effects, including narcissism, Dunning-Kruger, and imagined conspiracies. I think your observation about use of invisible props is likely to be a result of this wave on wave interaction, and try to perform the necessary calculations to test this hypothesis.
