https://news-zw.churchofjesuschrist.org ... es-supportElder Andersen said the significance of the meeting with Vice President Mohadi was to “express to him our desire to help improve Zimbabwe.” He noted that Vice President Mohadi had made a specific request for support with the development of clean-water wells in more remote areas of Zimbabwe.
“We want to help in every way we can,” said Elder Andersen. “We are not a wealthy people but we are good people, and we share what we have,” he added.
Subsequently, Anderson has discovered the eye watering amounts (hundreds of billions of dollars) hoarded away gathering interest. So there is no excuse of "ignorance" for what he said in his conference talk in October 2023.
https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2023/09 ... s-general/All material resources enjoyed by Latter-day Saints come “from God,” apostle Neil L. Andersen said Saturday afternoon.
“As disciples of Christ, we willingly share with those around us,” he said.
Tithing cures poverty...really Neil? The only “permanent solution to the poverty of this world is the gospel of Jesus Christ,” Andersen said. “...The world speaks of tithing in terms of our money, but the sacred law of tithing is principally a matter of our faith.”
Perhaps the vast sums of tithing sat gathering dust and compound interest slipped his mind when preparing his talk.Andersen defended the church’s use of its funds. “Sacred tithes do not belong to leaders of the church,” Andersen said. “They belong to the Lord.” They are spent on helping those in need, missionary work, temples, meetinghouses and five institutions of higher learning.
I'm guessing that was the quote shared with him when he asked about the revelations in the media that the church had hundreds of billions of dollars stashed away in secret, avoiding tax, avoiding reporting, and not being spent on any of the charitable reasons it was given for.Andersen shared a quote from former church President Gordon B. Hinckley’s father about tithing: “What the authorities of the church do with it need not concern [you, Gordon]. They are answerable to the Lord, who will require an accounting at their hands.”
You are a wealthy people Neil, and you don't share what you have.
