What all are they doing to the temple downtown?

Post by msnobody »

What all are they doing to the temple downtown? It looks like it may be pretty major work being done with all the scaffolding surrounding the temple.

“the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.” 1 John 1:7 ESV

Salt Lake Temple Spires: Restoration Complete
The six spires atop the Salt Lake Temple have completed a four-year restoration and seismic strengthening project. Scaffolding has been removed, revealing the beautifully restored towers. Over 6,000 stones were removed, cataloged, cleaned, and reinstalled with enhanced steel reinforcement for seismic safety.

The spire refurbishment included the installation of steel plates and internal caps, ensuring both preservation of historic character and modern earthquake resilience.

Entry Pavilions: Construction Progress
Two sets of pavilions are under construction: entry pavilions on the north side for temple patrons and their guests, and visitor pavilions on the south side for general Temple Square visitors.

The north entry pavilions are rising with steel support structures and stone cladding designed to reflect the temple’s Victorian-era architecture. The exteriors of the south visitor pavilions are now complete.

These new pavilions will provide improved access, including direct tunnels from North Temple Street and the Conference Center parking garage, leading to a new grand hall beneath the temple with large skylights.

The entry experience is being redesigned to feel more consistent with the original Victorian-era temple, enhancing both functionality and historic ambiance.

Other Renovation Highlights
The southwest quadrant of Temple Square has reopened to the public, featuring three newly restored monuments: the Seagull Monument, the Aaronic Priesthood restoration monument, and the Melchizedek Priesthood restoration monument.

Landscaping and finish work are ongoing, and many public areas such as the Conference Center, Tabernacle, Church History Museum, and FamilySearch Library remain open to visitors.

The temple’s interior is also being renovated, with finish work underway in key rooms and expansions to accommodate more patrons, including increasing the number of sealing rooms from 13 to 22.

Perplexity A.I.
It's been a long and ongoing project.
