Pretty good impersonation, except where's the topic derail?
Derailing topic: Rainy day fund pros and cons by churches like the LDS church, but really only pros and really only the LDS church.

Actual topic: Is the LDS church committing tax evasion, according to IRS rules?
Still pretty tethered in my opinion as compared to how far afield MG 2.0 derails topics.

Lol. Judging whether something is tethered based on how untethered he is ? That's not even 'whataboutism,' that's just
'whataboutWHATtheEVERLIVINgHELLwasTHAT?!!??!?'

I actually see apologetics about this, suggesting that any financial crime they may have committed is a “mole hill” as long as it’s small in comparison to the church’s total investments.

What kind of christianity is this?

Is it OK to rob convenience stores if you’re a millionaire? Is a weekend affair no big deal if you’ve been married faithfully for decades?

Little wonder the church is bleeding active members.

according to Luke 16:10, Jesus wrote:The one who is faithful in a very little thing is also faithful in much; and the one who is unrighteous in a very little thing is also unrighteous in much.
This seems to have been one of Jesus’s moral theories. It’s a bit counter-intuitive, because one may well assume that people will often step up and perform better when they know it really matters, for big things. I think Jesus had a point, though. Excusing yourself from little moral obligations, but telling yourself that you’ll still do the right thing when it really counts, is like never taking the stairs, and driving everywhere, but telling yourself you’ll still be good for a marathon.
I was a teenager before it was cool.

I'll ask you the same question I asked gadianton, "How does it feel to belong to the one-percent?"

As a youth in the Church we were taught it wasn’t enough to avoid evil and wrongdoing, we had to avoid the appearance of evil and wrongdoing.

The example being set by The Brethren now is that wrongdoing is absolutely fine, especially if you can get away with it, if you get caught then settle quickly but don’t apologise to anyone.

Presumably The Brethren think it’s okay to under declare your income in order to pay less tithing?
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

Active LDS are very proud of the Church's financial accumulations and hope someday to have a treasure chest like Smaug's in their Little Cottonwood Canyon Vault, with a transportation system rivaling Gringotts Bank.

The more I think about this parallel the more apt I think it is.

The Brethren are advocating members pay an honest tithe whilst simultaneously running a financial fraud designed to avoid paying an honest tax.

1. Hypocrites are people who don’t practice what they preach.
2. The Brethren don’t practice what they preach.
3. Therefore The Brethren are Hypocrites.
Premise 1. Eyewitness testimony is notoriously unreliable.
Premise 2. The best evidence for the Book of Mormon is eyewitness testimony.
Conclusion. Therefore, the best evidence for the Book of Mormon is notoriously unreliable.

No, they will ask, “Will a man rob God?”
"I have learned with what evils tyranny infects a state. For it frustrates all the virtues, robs freedom of its lofty mood, and opens a school of fawning and terror, inasmuch as it leaves matters not to the wisdom of the laws, but to the angry whim of those who are in authority.”
