We most solemnly and sincerely declare, God this Day being witness of the truth and sincerity of our designs and statements, that happy will it be with those who examine and scan Joseph Smith's pretensions to righteousness; and take counsel of human affairs, and of the experience of times gone by. Do not yield up tranquilly a superiority to that man which the reasonableness of past events, and the laws of our country declare to be pernicious and diabolical. We hope many items of doctrine, as now taught, some of which, however, are taught secretly, and denied openly, (which we know positively is the case,)and others publicly, considerate men will treat with contempt; for we declare them heretical and damnable in their influence, though they find many devotees. How shall he, who had drank of the poisonous draft, teach virtue? In the stead thereof, when the criminal ought to plead guilty to the court, the court is obliged to plead guilty to the criminal. We appeal to humanity and ask, what shall we do? Shall we lie supinely and suffer ourselves to be metamorphosed into beasts by the Syren tongue? We amswer that our country and our God require that we should rectify the tree. We have called upon him to repent, and as soon as he shewed fruits meet for repentance, we stood ready to seize him by the hand of fellowship, and throw around him the mantle of protection; for it is the salvation of souls we desire, and not our own aggrandizement . https://bhroberts.org/records/0S8KMz-hN ... _president
MG asks: Is this a link and run? I don't see where you have suggested why we ought to be interested in this quote and what your own personal opinion and thoughts are in regards to the quote. What should we learn?
I guess we can let IHQ be the judge.
It seems as though the requirements for posting a link are rather minimal. It also seems as if I might be singled out unnecessarily. It's actually getting a bit confusing. Another poster did a link and run recently and no one called that poster out either.
Shades, maybe a bit more clarification might be helpful. I'm seeing, what seems to be, a double standard.
Perhaps frequency may have something to do with it, MG.
In a show of good faith I have added a brief explanation for why I believe it’s worth the time to read. I trust this rectifies the perceived double standard.

I also have been trying to be more cognizant of what I am posting/saying when I give a link in a post, rather than what has apparently been seen as a link and run. I'm happy to see that there might be some others here that are willing to consider that there may have been a double standard and are willing to also make a change.
Although, truth be told, I hadn't really paid attention or even noticed that others were doing it until IHQ and one or two others made a big giant deal out of it. I still believe that their motives were something other than 'board rules'...but I guess I'll leave it at that.
Here's a depiction of the angel commanding our hero to have sex with young women. And of course an angel told him to do it.
Yea, thou shalt find choice young handmaids to build up seed unto me and thou shalt enjoy their youth and be glad, thus sayeth the Lord!
If I was married, made covenants during a marriage ceremony, and an angel of God told me to break those covenants or lose my position and life then I would say positions are nothing and Jesus said do not fear those who can kill your body but fear those who can kill the soul.
Of course. Anyway, if you want to see the fruits of polygamy, just go to a St. George Costco on a weekend and you'll see them parading around, the man ahead of his bitches with his chest out and the alpha next in line with the breeding stock scurrying behind. Its a sight to see.
We took a bunch of golf trips to St. George during covid and I acted like tour guide to see the polygamists for my uninformed Las Vegas buddies. I taught them in the secret ways of spotting polys and they became pretty good at it after a while.
ETA on a baseball trip with my sons to Cedar City, I took them to Mt. Meadows and gave them a lesson on how cult practices can lead to atrocities, just to put it in their minds for later retrieval. We then went to a Costco in St. George and saw the spectacle that is our people. It was like going to a human zoo. Damn my ancestors for falling for that nonsense.
Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.
Someone needs to learn the difference between a sourced and posted quote and a link and run.

I have rewritten the rule to better encapsulate the spirit of it as opposed to the strict letter of it. Here, per your request for more clarification, is the rewritten Universal Rule #10, with new parts in red:
Do not EVER "link-and-run." If you post a link to something, alwaysdescribe its content with enough detail so readers can know, in advance, whether it's worth their time to click on it. (Ideally, explain what's at the other end of it, why it's important, and what you hope other readers / viewers learn from it.)RULE OF THUMB: If it's not worth your time to describe it, then it's not worth our time to click on it.
The above doesn't constitute an invitation to skate by with adding as little information as possible to your link. In spite of the above, you really can't go wrong with supplying MORE information, not less, to your description of your link.

Err on the side of completeness.
Yep. I think that Moksha, drumdude, sock puppet, myself, and others, can be more consistent in 'fleshing out' the content of a link and why we think it is applicable to the topic at hand. I will be more cognizant of following the spirit/letter of the law in following the rules that you have formulated for the board.
I appreciate the further clarification you have given.

God really has his priorities straight. God could have sent that same angel to stop Hitler, but I guess forcing Joseph to have lots of sex with underage girls and marry other men’s wives was more important.
Tsk, tsk, Everybody Wang Chung. In the 1830s and 1840s, Mormon God was horny and wanted to have some live-action porn to watch. Stopping Hitler? Hmmm. No. We needed free agency to play out despite the millions and millions of people that suffered and died as a result.
