Yes, it was getting to be an interesting example of one person's antisocial posting habits.
Of course Juliann and Doc Peterson got their posts in right before anyone could respond (good work mod team). It should have been closed from the start as a board war thread, but if they're going to let these threads run 3 pages why not another 3?
It was actually turning out a rather civil thread between the time Juliann finished her first wave of posts and got back on later. Cut out Juliann's posts and it's rather civil really.
"Whatever appears to be against the Book of Mormon is going to be overturned at some time in the future. So we can be pretty open minded."-charity 3/7/07
Hmmm...Spinner's post captured the key thoughts of the thread, in my opinion:
Spinner wrote:I for one am grateful to Juliann for starting this thread. She has put on her waders and braved through the muck of RFM in order to disprove, once and for all, the oft-repeated and widely believed mantra that "boards like RFM are no different than this one in their content."
What's more, by starting this thread, she has opened up a productive avenue for discussion of many of the harmful aspects of apostacy, such as Cold Steel observation that "[m]any people who leave the church have a sort of darkness that settles upon them, and with that darkness comes bitterness, rage, and hatred" or Mordecai's making the connection between sinning and the cowardly nature of RFM posters. These and many other highly productive lines of discussion that can lead to deepened mutual understanding have been opened through this thread.
So, thanks for creating an honest, objective discussion of the relative differences of these two boards in a manner that encourages scholarly discourse and mutual respect while avoiding that common trap of poisoning the well by cherry-picking the worst behavior of one's opponents to tarnish the entire group. These efforts are much appreciated.

What I find amazing is that Juliann once again didn't see the irony just dripping from Spinner's post.

DCP was the last Message Posted right before the Moderator named 'Momus' Posted the very last Message to close down that Discussion thread over there. Here is the DCP Message that he Posted on that now closed Discussion thread over there:
QUOTE(MiniDriver @ Jan 27 2007, 02:48 PM) It's a place to vent. Heard of freedom of speech?
Has anyone suggested that the oddly-named "Recovery" board is not constitutionally protected and ought to be shut down by the government or by anybody or anything else acting from the outside?
If not, don't pretend that the issue here involves freedom of speech.
QUOTE(MiniDriver @ Jan 27 2007, 02:48 PM) You may not like it, you may not agree with it, but these people are upset and hurting and they need to talk. Isn't that obvious?
It's not obvious to me that self-declared victim status, real or illusory, gives one an ethical blank check (as opposed to a legal right, which nobody here has denied) to engage in the kind of personal hatred and vitriol that is all too common on the weirdly-named "Recovery" board.
QUOTE(MiniDriver @ Jan 27 2007, 02:48 PM) It's an outlet where they can express their frustrations. Whether or not they have been lied to by a church they trusted is a matter which we will disagree upon, alter idem, but the point is, that is how they feel.
They may well "feel" that way. And their "feelings" may well have some greater or lesser basis in reality. Or they may not. I don't see, in any case, how such "feelings" provide them ethical cover for calling others sociopaths, pigs, perverts, liars, hacks, absurdities, brain-dead robots, psychopaths, and the like, simply because those others hold different views on religion than they do. Having been called all of those things, and many more (some of them obscene), by people there who don't even know me, I will need some convincing before I believe that this is all completely justified and quite wholesome.

"I used to like Steve, but something happened to him during his leave of absense from the RfM board. He has returned as a complete [expletive deleted]. THe RfM board has really gone downhill the past few months to the point where I lurk for a few minutes and have no desire to post anything. It used to be the most addictive board on the net, now it's garbage. His behavior toward Dan Vogel yesterday was bizarre. He has become the Daniel C. Peterson of RfM, including the lapdogs that agree with everything he says and chase off anyone who dares question King Benson." [the ultimate possible insult, from another board]

Well, I think that is was pretty low of Juliann to take a cheap shot at Liz like that, after Liz has been banned over there, and she can't respond to Juliann over there because she is banned over there.

Another thing I find funny is juliann's labeling everyone the "tin foil hat brigade" and so forth is response to our making guesses about the mod identities, when---lo and behold!---they've just added this new moderator! LOL!!!
Edited to add: I totally agree with you about juliann's cheap shot on Liz. Not very nice at all.
One other thing---

So you folks imagine it's just members of shade's board reading scratch's profiles? I was shocked to see those numbers. I read each one once. I suspect it's MADdites who are visiting quite a bit. Odd, considering most of the MADdites seem to view the board as beneath them.
And your suspicions change what is there...how?
I defy juliann to demonstrate that the material on the blog is of the same nature as the "vulgarity" and profanity of RfM.
She claims that the MADboard is "innocent" because all it's doing is "countering" RfM. Well, fine---all my blog is doing is "countering" the unfairness of the fittingly named MADboard.

Good heavens. Are his feelings hurt? Has the Great One, Strong and Mighty, fallen prey to "feelings"?
