Thank you Truth Dancer...I forgot the DANCING!!! WTF. I mean wtf. Seriously, WTF.
Where is this big "dance tradition" in Mormonism? Singing, yes. Amateur theatricals, yes. Journal keeping, yes. Quilting, yes.
Dancing? DANCING?
Love for the physical body?
Maybe there's some Dance Dance Revolution club at BYU. I could buy that.
But a cultural tradition that emphasizes the physical body and dance? That is preposterous.

Hi Blixa... yeah that whole dance thing was weird. And that poet... why in the world was he a part of the discussion?
The only dancing tradition of which I am aware is the dancing all night, until total exhaustion in the temple after the endowment ritual in the early days of the church. Now THAT was weird.
I just really didn't think the whole poetic perspective was pertinent to the core of what is the church.
Given limited time there are just so many more concrete, real, significant, and important issues that seemed overlooked.

Thanks for the headsup...I'll post a link tomorrow if nobody else does.
Oh yeah, and another thing: since when was Joseph Smith visited by Pippi Longstocking?
Pippi Longstocking is code for Helen Mar....her favorite music group was Gladys Knight and the Pips.

I didn't watch much of the PBS special, but my husband recorded it on the DVR and watched it. He called me to come see the strange poet with the bulging eyes... that dude was seriously weird and like you, I've no idea why he was part of the discussion. Just thinking about him makes me laugh!
Hubby reported that it was exceedingly boring and he thinks most non-Mormons wouldn't have watched the entire thing. He said the way some people talked and the production kinda reminded him of conference. I guess it had a "conference cadence", at least my husband thinks it did.
I doubt I'll be watching it at all but look forward to reading the discussions on the board!

Just check out the "moroni" image when you see it. I'm guessing its some bit of "Mormon art," but its pretty strange.
Though not as strange as the presentation of Mormonism as a having a rich culture and tradition of ....DANCE!

So Mormons have a rich culture of dance...what about the scientologists? Having Travolta alone has to make them The Paradigm of a religion with a rich dance tradition.
