Since the awards ceremony conflicted with Church, we both got subs for our callings (me, Primary Pianist, hubby, High Priest Instructor), and skipped out on the 3 hour circus of meetings which normally makes my Sunday feel like another work day.
We actually slept in a little bit. I played outside in the yard with our 3 year old. We enjoyed a very nice Awards Ceremony, and then got take-out from P.F. Chang's.
It's the first Sunday in ages where I haven't felt stressed to the max after a day of prepping the baby bag, getting myself and the baby dressed, listening to the teen-agers' latest drama about what to wear, feeling like I have been dragged through a war after having my 3 year old climb all over me during Sacrament Meeting before taking him to Nursery so I can play the piano for two hours. To be fair, I enjoy playing the piano for Primary, but the whole rigamaroll of the day is exhausting, and I always end up feeling like I only have a one day weekend.
I was musing over Some Schmo's signature, and the thought just came to me. Wow, is today's experience what most normal (non-LDS) people do on Sundays? No wonder they look forward to the weekends. LOL
LOL, you might have liked it so much that I'll be able to talk you out of going when I come raid your house, Liz. Then we can bake cookies and watch DVDs all day, while giving ourselves facials and pedicures.
I think that for many who have little ones who go to church, not just in the LDS church, if you have to keep them with you, it's definitely difficult. Thank heaven for those churches who have help in place for the families. I once worked in a nursery of a big mega-church in GA. I was with the two-year-olds. I kind of missed not being able to attend services, but working with the kids was wonderful. I was also LDS at the time, so in a way I got my "meal" in, sacrament at my ward was just after work. And I never felt guilty about working on sunday, I just felt amazed that I got paid for doing something so fun. :-)
Growing up we got our butts beaten if we peeped in church. So I slept in the front pew...didn't peep!
I'm glad you enjoyed your sunday. Today I spent several hours reading my scriptures and other books I've bought. I'm trying to devise a sort of reference system where I can take notes on things that I read that stand out to me, and keep them organized for things like discussion and term papers. Hope it works!
Tried to coax boyfriend over for dinner, but I think parents scared him off. But dinner was still good. :p
My pastor once said that sometimes the most spiritual thing you can do is take a nap. I totally agree!
