I can't believe they're still using the argument that the family will spin it against the Church. I posted a link to the markers and monument that the family erected. It does not blame BY at all.
I also emailed a descendent and directed them to that thread. The worst PR for the Church will be those "Christians" on that board mocking the descendents.

beastie was that quote from edwhoever about the descendants killing PPP over on MAD?
That's a completley NEW one. Just when I thought I had collected all the propaganda...
Yes, it's on page 5 of the thread.

We hate to seem like we don’t trust every nut with a story, but there’s evidence we can point to, and dance while shouting taunting phrases.

The only thing more embarrassing than the church's behavior is the apologetic spin over at MAD. Daniel Peterson doesn't understand why they still feel bad 150 years later and is basically telling them to get over it. How about the church makes a deal with the Fanchers. If the Fanchers can just forget about the whole thing and pretend MMM never happened, the church will forget about the persecutions in Missouri and Illinois, and the murder of Joseph and Hyrum. THose memorial sites the church has bought up over the years, they'll sell back to the original owners. After all, we must not look back and remember.

cdowis also said, "Bagley will be writing the text of the historical markers."
ha. little does he know Bagley already did...he was one of the people who wrote the text on the 1990 markers (along with Gene Sessions and probably some others...).
The ignorance and hysteria level in that thread is off the charts.

I'm done posting on that thread. It went way beyond reasonable the minute Juliann said that the Fancher descendants had publicly called the church "mass murderers."

I wonder how LDS in general, and church leadership in specific, would have felt if Carthage Jail were owned and managed as a monument site by the same sheriff's dep't that was in control of the jail when the mob attacked.

It's odd that, given the fact that the LDS church so heavily emphasizes honoring one's ancestors and being actively engaged in their behalf, that the LDS on this thread seem incapable of understanding why the descendants of the massacred feel strongly about this issue.
Although I do agree that people can become psychologically "unbalanced" by dwelling on the past persecutions of their ancestors......
pregnant pause........
