Ah, yes....Utah...there is caffeine free everything.
Here's a way to have some fun.
Serve Barq's Root Beer at the next Ward function. Notice them get a little peppy?
Barq's Root Beer has caffeine in it.
;)
The only rootbeer served at my ward functions is the homemade kind. Serving bottled rootbeer would be considered sacreligious!
I've never heard of homemade rootbeer. I'll have to google it. Is it difficult to make?

Actually, hubby and I rented our first soft porn in Utah. LOL
There was a video store near our house that had all kinds of good stuff.
It was a small mom and pop owned video store. I was really surprised. They didn't even have a separate room for R rated movies.
Nothing "scrubbed". LOL

My family is always in charge of making the rootbeer (we have extensive experience, having made it every month for years, for Scout Family Movie Night).
Get a 5+ gallon container, like a milk can or a water cooler.
Put 5 pounds of sugar in the bottom. Add one bottle of Hires Rootbeer Extract. Stir to mix up the sugar and extract. Add 4 1/2 gallons of water. Stir until the sugar dissolves. Drop in a 2 1/2 pound chunk of dry ice. Prop the lid on top (do NOT put the lid on tight, or it will explode all over everywhere). Let it bubble for about half an hour. Add ice to keep it cold.
Voila! Homemade rootbeer! Drink it all. It will not keep.

Oh excellent! Sounds easy and something my kids could do with me. Thanks, we'll give it a shot this weekend.

You'll have enough for a block party. :-)
Remember, the dry ice won't keep, even in the freezer, so buy it the day you make the rootbeer.

Who knew there was such a thing?
My random thoughts:
- Mountain Dew is my absolute favorite. Tasty green nectar.
- When I was in law school at BYU (early 90s), they were test marketing caffeine-free Mountain Dew in Utah County. Wasn't a big success at the time. It was shortly after they experimented with "Pepsi Clear".
- I had to take my 32 oz refillable mug across the street from the law school to the corner gas station to get my morning fix.
- Each time I was pregnant, I would have sold my unborn child for a can of caffeine-free Mountain Dew (it'll tickle your innards!).
- In Australia and Canada (to name two places), by default Mountain Dew has no caffeine. I found that out the hard way in Australia when I got off the plane from a 12+ hour flight with a nasty caffeine-withdrawal headache and I picked one up from the vending machine in the airport. It did nuthin' for me. I had to get a *shudder* Pepsi Max.
I may be going to hell in a bucket, babe / But at least I'm enjoying the ride.
