Yep, but I sort of screwed it up. Rosie the Riveter (in all her "We Can Do It" glory) was supposed to be the image at the last bit... I screwed that up. When I'm less lazy I'll fix it.

I always thought FW was unintentionally catering to latent pedophilia: the unending references to acting (even dressing) like a little girl and being "child like" were very, very troubling. Even leaving the sexual ickiness out of it, the idea of counseling a woman to never truly be an adult human is despicable.

Ohhh yes... I remember wondering what kind of man wants to be married to a child?

A pedophile, a power hungry abusive man who can't handle discussion, disagreement, or altering opinions.

A man who feels powerful by dominating, controlling, and ruling others.

A man who considers women as some sort of subservient, second class, not quite human creature.

Basically, a man who has some serious issues! :-(

But the odd thing about men like this, in my experience, is that they're not really attracted to these females. In the sense that I think about sexual attraction.

Men that enjoy control wish to rule them. Batter them down. That is not a man truly wanting to be married to a woman that he enjoys. It's that he enjoys himself and the feeling of power he gains from pushing them down.

The woman is second to that need. She's merely a tool that he uses to amp up his own pride and self inflation.

Then as he becomes more successful in his domination he enjoys her less and less. She is dehumanized and is molded into a "child". Then he can demean her even more for acting in mannerisms that he forced upon her.

That's really good insight, IMHO. The book completely dehumanizes women and strips them of their individuality as a recipe for marital bliss. Be a tool. A loving, adoring, admiring, saucy, childlike tool. I bet they watch Stepford Wives (not the part where the women rebel, of course) as past of their lessons.

On a related note: is it this book that's responsible for the proliferation of the infamous Relief Society voice? That would explain a lot.

You are correct... they are interested, not in a relationship, intimacy, mutual sharing and caring, or even love. They are interested in control, power, and domination.

I think of it as an addiction, where the stimulant is never enough. The more he feels powerful the more he needs to feel powerful. What may have given him that high from domination becomes no longer sufficient.

It is a horrible dynamic!
