Although this is kind of impossible because of confidentiality: the state or county may be placing kids at this site. A lot of times when foster homes don't work out this type of "placement" is the only thing left. These places are all over California and they usally run between 6 and 8 grand a month for the kid, plus free government health and dental care.

The state does place kids in this place. Some kids are sent there after being in the juvenile court system. The church also pays for the families who can't afford it. They get their food from what is donated by the Bishops Storehouse or Warehouse or whatever it's called. I remember thinking that I can't believe a place like this exists in America.
We've interviewed former staff and over 20 people who were sent there.
Oddly enough, there are two sets of senior missionaries there.

Was corporal punishment ever doled out? And if so, did it come about because of Chris Buttars, or in spite of him?
"Finally, for your rather strange idea that miracles are somehow linked to the amount of gay sexual gratification that is taking place would require that primitive Christianity was launched by gay sex, would it not?"

Why would you think this was a unique place? This is an antiquated and unscientific system, but hardly unique. A similar place is located about 8 miles from where I'm sitting right now. The only difference is, they aren't LDS; they're EV.

Umm... It is unique as far as residential treatment facilities go. And if you can think of a place that really is similar I'd love to hear about it ( by the way this place is entirely unique in the way it is ran)

Are you saying that forcing kids to pray, study the "scriptures", attend church and seminary is equated with "abuse"? Or were there other actual abuses going on?
Edited to add:
I should probably read the whole thread before I comment...(where is the embarrassed smilie!??)

Definitely. And I'm not sure if it was because of him, it certainly wasn't despite him. He is well hated by the consensus of boys we spoke with.
If there's one thing I've learned from this board, it's that consensual sex with multiple partners is okay unless God commands it. - Abman
I find this place to be hostile toward all brands of stupidity. That's why I like it. - Some Schmo

The boys here had to wear wool blankets like towels instead of pants, with ropes tied around their waist serving as leashes. There are well documented accounts of physical abuse and at least one death that occurred. I'm not trying to be sensational at all, in fact, the opposite.
Forcing the Mormon religion on kids was just a small caveat, something I found relevant for this board.
