It takes a lot of faith to believe that none of those dice rolls came up with life except us.
If the odds for life are greater than 10^20, then we are undoubtedly alone in the universe. Nobody knows the what the odds for life are. It's better to be agnostic about this.

Cain addressed this.

The Dark Forest doesn't explain why we happen to live in an unusual star system.

Even if you don't believe UAPs are probes, if there were advanced alien civilizations that sent out probes, we'd expect them to act similarly to UAPs -- get close but evade contact.
It's possible, but Mick West has done an excellent job at giving an explanation for the UAPs.

I agree in the sense that I think it's unknowable. We won't be able to set foot on any of these 10^24 planets outside our solar system for a very long time. I just think its extremely likely that there is something interesting going on at many of these planets, and they're not all likely to be boring chunks of rock and gas with no self-replicating molecules at all. But that's just because I strongly agree with Copernicus that our null hypothesis should be that we are not unique or special.

However, we do know our solar system is unusual. What are the odds of us being in an unusual solar system? One has to wonder why.

We may be alone in the Universe, but there may be intelligent alien life in another universe. Do you think that's possible?

There is a Christian apologetic that makes the same argument. You can see it presented in the documentary called The Privileged Planet.

Life could require a sun just like ours, but it also might not. We've only seen one example of what life can look like, us. But even there we've seen on our own planet how readily life adapts to its hostile environment in completely surprising ways. I think it's certainly possible life exists in places we might naïvely think are uninhabitable.

Wouldn't we expect to find alien probes in the Dark Forest?

I don't agree with the Christian apologetic version. Cain and Kipping are atheists.

True, but if life doesn't require a star like ours, then why is our sun not a Red Dwarf (the most common type)? Why would we happen to be in a very unusual solar system? Think about it. What are the odds?

Yes, that's the result of billions of years of evolution. We do not know if life can begin in hostile environments.
