Questions: Is Russel M. Nelson a prophet? He's sustained as a Prophet, Seer, and Revelator. What does that mean anymore? Is it really just a meaningless courtesy title? If not, what has he prophecied? What has he "seen"? What has he revealed?

Joseph Smith at least acted as if he were a prophet, giving out revelations and pretending to know all sorts of great things that (naturally) his followers could never verify. He played the role of prophet very well. What of his successors? Does Gordon B. Hinckley really act like a prophet? Or does he act more like a combination of corporate CEO and stand-up comic?

Depends on what a Prophet is. If your perception is based on Charlton Heston movies and popular culture perhaps not.

I dunno. It might be nice to have a prophet who actually prophesies, a seer who actually sees, and a revelator who actually reveals things. The LDS church hasn't had any of those in quite some time.

They prophesy of Christ all the time, the seers tell us to do all kinds of things because of what they see, and the revelators reveal new things about God every Conference. I'm not complaining though I've decided to get all these gifts myself to make it more personal. Still working on it.

If you're looking for dramatic stuff stick with Charlton Heston movies and pop culture.

I'm not looking for anything dramatic. I've never heard Gordon B. Hinckley prophesy, ever; nor have I heard him or any of the others reveal anything "new" about God; and your definition of "seer" does not match the usage of the LDS church.

Didn't GBH prophesied a few years back in the challenge to read the Book of Mormon by the end of the year? Wasn't there supposed blessings for doing as such?

I'm assuming you mean this:

We studied the Book of Mormon in Sunday School this past year. Nonetheless I offer a challenge to members of the Church throughout the world and to our friends everywhere to read or reread the Book of Mormon. If you will read a bit more than one and one-half chapters a day, you will be able to finish the book before the end of this year. Very near the end of its 239 chapters, you will find a challenge issued by the prophet Moroni as he completed his record nearly 16 centuries ago. Said he:

“And I exhort you to remember these things; for the time speedily cometh that ye shall know that I lie not, for ye shall see me at the bar of God; and the Lord God will say unto you: Did I not declare my words unto you, which were written by this man, like as one crying from the dead, yea, even as one speaking out of the dust? …

“And God shall show unto you, that that which I have written is true” (Moro. 10:27, 29).

Without reservation I promise you that if each of you will observe this simple program, regardless of how many times you previously may have read the Book of Mormon, there will come into your lives and into your homes an added measure of the Spirit of the Lord, a strengthened resolution to walk in obedience to His commandments, and a stronger testimony of the living reality of the Son of God (Gordon B. Hinckley, Ensign, August 2005)

Seer means to see past, present, and future. Then you give counsel based on said seeage. I've heard him prophesy many times. The most dramatic time was when he told the family of a little girl with cancer that she would be healed. I knew the family. Prognosis was very much in doubt at that time. She did heal.

SEER. A person authorized of God to see with spiritual eyes things which God has hidden from the world (Moses 6: 35-38). He is a revelator and a prophet (Mosiah 8: 13-16). In the Book of Mormon, Ammon taught that only a seer could use special interpreters, or a Urim and Thummim (Mosiah 8: 13; 28: 16). A seer knows the past, present, and future. Anciently, a prophet was often called a seer (1 Sam. 9: 9; 2 Sam. 24: 11).
Joseph Smith is the great seer of the latter days (D&C 21: 1; 135: 3). In addition, the First Presidency and the Council of the Twelve are sustained as prophets, seers, and revelators.

The LDS usage of "seer" generally refers to one who is authorized to use the Urim and Thummim.

Okay, are you expecting him to bring them to Conference?
