So let me get this straight:

(1) John Dehlin had a consensual emotional affair with Rosebud, who was at that time an Open Stories Foundation board member. (By "emotional affair" I mean there were professions of love, affection, and desires for sex that would be inappropriate between mere co-workers / friends, but they apparently never crossed over into physical affection / sex.) Both parties were married to other people at the time. They both suck.

(2) Rosebud suggested they make things physical whereupon Dehlin broke things off with her and machinated her termination from Open Stories Foundation. Dehlin sucks.

(3) Rosebud then made delusional, insane threats against Dehlin and Open Stories Foundation and has spent the last decade or so on our forums ineptly carrying out those threats, painting her consensual emotional affair with Dehlin as sexual harassment and conveniently neglecting to mention the parts where she actively pursued Dehlin. Rosebud sucks.

Stop for a second to think about what A tried to do. She tried to get a woman's husband to sleep with her. Who knows what STDs A may have had, which could have been passed to Margi through John. Thank God John said no.


That, in my opinion, is actual sexual harassment. Margi is the victim in all of this. The irony? It's completely legal, and Margi would have no legal recourse to punish either John or A for it.

The only thing I'd add is that Lem is arguing that anytime there is a sexual relationship between a subordinate and a superior, regardless if it is 100% consensual, and the subordinate ends up losing his/her job it is per se sexual harassment. I think this standard may be fine for a Fortune 100 company, but it is too rigid for a small venture such as Open Stories Foundation where the only two people actively working on it are the same people involved in the relationship and it does not sufficiently consider the subordinate's actions prior to termination (e.g., degree to which subordinate actively pursued the superior, etc.). The Lem standard is not the legal standard and I do not know how widely it is accepted in the broader world.
